Midwives of York Region

Midwives of York Region MYR is a midwifery clinic that serves the York Region community. With privileges at Southlake Health. We are a practice of ten Registered Midwives.

We offer a choice of birthplace: home or hospital. We hold admitting and discharge privileges at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket. We work in teams to offer 24-hour oncall availability. Our office is located in Aurora.

We’re a little late in the day, but a past MYR family reminded us about International Homebirth Day!

“Happy International Home Birth Day! I’m so grateful to my incredible team of midwives at MOYR for making me feel so safe and confident in birthing my 2nd and 3rd babies at home. It was a dream come true!”

Did you know MYR attends roughly about 10% of our total births at home? That number fluctuates through the years, but we are the only care providers in Canada who can offer homebirth as a safe option for birth.

We are trained in emergency care for both the parent and the newborn, and we carry the equivalent to a level one hospital room in our cars at all times!

The Power of Nurses to Transform Health

Today is International Nurses Day.

Today we want to shout out to all the wonderful nurses we have the privilege of working alongside every day at southlakehealth. We could not be the midwives we are without all of you on the unit.
From the labour and delivery nurses who come in at a moments notice when we need help.
The postpartum nurses who care for MYR clients after they’ve had their babies.
The NICU nurses who support our clients who support our MYR babies through some of their toughest days.

When they are often stretched way thinner than they should be, and underpaid for the absolute invaluable work they do - we see you and we know your worth.
