Happy Nurses Week!!

This Nurses Week, we recognize the incredible LPNs and RNs who are a huge part of our home.

In Long Term Care, especially in rural settings, nursing is never just a job — it’s hands-on, deeply personal, creative, thoughtful, and incredibly impactful career. Nurses are woven into the everyday lives of the residents and families you serve. You are caregivers, advocates, listeners, comforters, and trusted faces through every season of life. The impact you make reaches far beyond the obvious.

To every LPN and RN: thank you for your hard work, the quiet moments of comfort, the teamwork, the resilience, and the unwavering commitment you bring every day. Alderwood would not be what it is without you.

We are grateful for families and friends who are visiting your loved ones during the current labour disruption.

Our CUPE staff continue to picket peacefully at the bottom of our road, and continue to take great care of your loved ones during their shifts as well, with the support of NSNU, and Management daily.

Thank you to all involved - this is a team to be very proud of. Our residents are receiving the essential care that they need during this time, but are missing our regular activities immensely!

We've set up a few spaces in our community hall for residents to enjoy - please feel free to bring your loved one out while you visit! Our Home is your Home! Turn on a movie, sit and enjoy the lake view, enjoy a Nordic Chair meditation, do some puzzles, play a game of cards, or just sit and have a chat!

We would love for our residents to be engaged, and also want to provide families and friends a change of scenery for your visits!

We continue to support our staff, residents and family during this time. Thank you for continuing to do so as well!

As many of you are aware, a strike involving CUPE long-term care staff across Nova Scotia is expected to begin tomorrow, April 13 at 7am.

We want to take a moment to acknowledge our dedicated team members. They play a vital role in the lives of our residents every day, and we respect their right to engage in this process.

As always, the safety and well-being of our residents remains our highest priority. We have contingency plans in place to ensure essential care needs continue to be met. We will evaluate operations regularly and make adjustments as needed to maintain a safe and supportive environment for residents and staff.

We understand that this may be a concerning time for residents and their families. We are committed to keeping you informed and appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this situation.

Also, as a reminder, families and friends are welcome, and encouraged to visit during this labour disruption.

🌸🐰 Happy Easter from all of us at Alderwood Rest Home! 🐣🌷
Our days were filled with joy, laughter, and cherished traditions.
Our very own resident, Mildred, brought smiles to everyone’s faces as she suited up as the Easter Bunny and delivered delightful Easter surprises throughout the home🐰💐

We also had a wonderful Easter egg hunt on the Alderwood grounds, made even more special by the laughter of children from our community. A heartfelt thank you to the Baddeck Baptist Church for organizing this beautiful event 💛🥚

Wishing everyone a day filled with hope, happiness, and the warmth of community. Happy Easter! 🌼✨
