The OPP is warning the public about fraudsters posing as cellphone service providers and offering discounts, upgraded plans, or new devices.

🚩 Warning signs:
• Unsolicited calls, texts, or emails about special offers
• Requests for passwords, PINs, or verification codes
• Pressure to act quickly
• Requests for ID such as a driver's licence or SIN
• Instructions to send a newly delivered device to another address

✅ Protect yourself:
• Hang up and contact your provider directly using verified contact information
• Never share passwords, PINs, or authentication codes
• Verify offers before opening new accounts or accepting devices

If you suspect fraud, contact your local police service and report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online at http://antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.

The Town of Bancroft will be attending the CARE North Hastings North Hastings Seniors Fair on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Bancroft Curling Club, 63 Newkirk Blvd.
