Cat dish graveyard 🪦
A shower, a workout, a dead bird… all unplanned.
Diligence Task 25✅

P.S. Did you know these tasks take WAY longer when I video them!? 😆
But…
would I have gotten this far on the list without the accountability?? I doubt it! Thank you! 😘

I dreaded this task because it involved me being in two yucky rooms that need a LOT of TLC, (my basement living room and my basement/dungeon storage room)
but I was not dealing with those two spaces today - rather, just one bookshelf amidst those spaces.

It was also a task that showed GLARING evidence of how hard I can ignore things… dumping the suitcase of books in the middle of my storage room rather than dealing with them. 😔

But guess what!? Now they are nicely put away! Done! I don’t need to beat myself up about when I was not able to be diligent, because I am diligent now!

Diligence Task 24✅

I have also been thinking about different seasons of my life when I was in crisis.

During those times, my energy was expended in grief and shock so I was doing well to feed and cuddle my children, show up to work, and wash my hair. Brushing my teeth felt insurmountable at times in those seasons.

So if you are in a season of crisis, don’t beat yourself up about “not being diligent”.

In those seasons, we just need to get by for awhile and leave the pile of books or the Christmas lights or the dirty window until we can breathe again.

I am thankful to be in a new season right now. It feels I am coming back to life.

As I look back on those old seasons of crisis, I have empathy for that version of me who was drowning in sorrow and ashamed at the state of her home. I wish I could tell her to keep reading and hoping in God’s promises and don’t beat herself up.
There will come a day she can take care of a few extras. But for now, be gentle on herself and know that brushing her teeth, washing her hair and loving her children while earning a living in the midst of the trials is well done! And that there will come a time where the sun will start to shine a little in her heart and she will be rejuvenated one little task at a time. It’s ok that that time is not in the midst of the crisis.

The jungle at the back of my house got evicted yesterday! It is not pretty, but it is tidy. That is all I needed!

Diligence Task 22✅

It was my 30 year High School Reunion yesterday so time was short and I had to choose between cleaning kitchen and doing a diligence task. I chose the task because the kitchen gets attention 365 days of the year. Whereas this jungle has been ignored for over 700 days. 😝

08/28/2026

Kitchen cupboards - the grime, the furry grunge. I can be blind to it.
But I did notice it now and then and I chose to ignore it for 2-3 years. “Later”

Later has arrived! And they are CLEAN!

Diligence Task 21✅

I did it in two parts.
The bottom row took a good hour a few days ago. And the top only took about 15-20 minutes.

Only 9 days left in my 30 day challenge. I am feeling relief with growing into being a more diligent person.

I remember many years ago, someone hurt me badly and I responded to it with paralysis in my home. I went to a conference and came back and though I still went to work and cared for my kids, I left my suitcase packed in my room for 6 weeks because of feeling like I could do nothing extra due to the pain in my soul.

I talked to a mentor about this and she asked me, “why have you given that person so much power that it’s stopping you from unpacking?”

A simple question when so bluntly put, it seemed ridiculous. So I simply had to get up and unpack.
Yes, why DID I allow them to have so much power over me that I got stuck?

It happens. It happened to me again in the past few years. Emotional pain, general overwhelm and physical injuries and illness had left me feeling paralyzed again. I felt broken, damaged, nothing left. Again, I went to work and took care of my kids, and all the little things got neglected.

But once I took that first step - to start to take care of those tiny, insignificant tasks that I had let pile up, I started to come back “to life”.

It is me choosing to “be well” one tiny victory at a time. Christ has defeated death. So why would I choose to be buried under my overwhelm?

It might just look like a kitchen cupboard to you, but to me, it is me coming back to life.

This Diligence Task 18✅ paid me $110!!

It might be a painter’s nightmare. But I am pleased enough with the improvement. 😆
Diligence Task 17 ✅
Every single time I use my washroom I see the baseboard that needs TLC. And now after today, I can smile at the diligence I see, rather than the neglect and procrastination!

A 20 minute job turned into 6 hours!
Diligence Task 16 ✅

The interruptions and complications of this task making it s-t-r-e-t-c-h out so long, reminded me of why I had developed such a pattern of being overwhelmed - by just imagining doing little tasks that didn’t HAVE to be done - because sometimes they turn into big tasks.

Some of the Diligence Tasks I have completed in this 30 Day Challenge have surprised me with how quickly they were completed.

Others, such as this one and the fridge freezer, turned into big “mountains”. But as I continue to apply my “faith the size of a mustard seed” committing to one task each day, I know these mountains will be moved!
And it’s not just the task being completed. As I have mentioned in previous posts, I am astounded at what else is changing positively in my habits and mindset as I continue to be diligent!!

Anxiety 😟
Do you feel the struggle? So sorry to hear this!
A few things that help me shift out of anxious mode:
1. Box breathing for at least 5 rounds. More is better. Breath in for a count of 4 - watch your tummy rise as you do so you know you are inhaling properly for max O2. Hold the inhaled breath for a count of 4. Release through a count of 4. Hold your breath after released for a count of 4. Repeat for 5+ rounds.

2. Write down all the things that are stressing you. Then they aren’t floating in your brain. It does something for our brains to have it written - even if you throw it out after. It’s like it files it instead of randomly floating around.

3. Speak aloud or write out 10 things you are so thankful for. Even if you have to start super small. “I love this t-shirt that is so comfortable and I am glad I get to wear it.” You will get a couple surface things out of the way and then be able to go deeper. “So thankful I have a friend who will check on me when I tell her I am struggling.” Or “I am so thankful for a child who loves me unconditionally and brightens my life.”
It is such a shift.

4. Grounding yourself. Be super present in the moment by thinking of what you are smelling, hearing, seeing, tasting, touching at that very moment. Moving yourself to nature is supercharging it. But even if you are lying in your bed it works. Get quiet in your soul to be present.
-Feel how the weight of your body feels on the bed. How your pj’s are feeling on your body, how your blanket and pillow feel touching you.
- what do you hear? Furnace, clock ticking, hum of electronic, dryer running?
- what do you taste? Toothpaste, onions from supper?
- what do you smell? Crisp air, dust, deodorant, etc
- what do you see? Lights from passing cars? Glow from electronic? Dust motes floating, husband’s chest rising and falling?

I hope you can pull out the peace and strength you never knew you had today! Or maybe you can sneak a 15 minute nap? Be kind to yourself and go to bed as early as possible. Being well rested makes a profound difference.

This has been me way too often. 🙋‍♀️ Anyone else? Thankfully I have friends that check in and show up! 😍
