Father’s Day can mean many things, but today we’re taking a moment to recognize the dads, grandfathers, stepdads, and father figures who show up with patience, support, and love.

Whether you’re learning about OCD alongside your loved one, cheering them on through recovery, or simply being a steady presence on the hard days, your impact matters.

Happy Father’s Day to all the incredible dads in our OCD North community. 💙

Healthcare can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re navigating OCD alongside other medical concerns.

That’s why we’re proud to have Jennie Cruickshank, MSCN, NP-PHC, as part of the OCD North team.

Jennie brings years of experience in both hospital and community healthcare settings, along with a compassionate, collaborative approach that helps clients feel heard, informed, and supported. She believes in taking the time to understand each person as an individual and empowering them to play an active role in their care.

Whether you’re feeling stuck, burnt out by the healthcare system, or simply looking for a provider who truly listens, Jennie is committed to helping clients move forward with confidence, trust, and hope.

“Just check one more time.”

Then one more.

Then one more after that.

OCD is rarely satisfied with a single check because the goal isn’t safety—it’s certainty.

And certainty is something OCD will never allow you to fully achieve.

Recovery often sounds less like confidence and more like:

“Maybe it’s okay.”

“Maybe it’s not.”

“I’ve checked once, and I’m choosing to move on.”

That response can feel uncomfortable, scary, and completely wrong at first.

But every time someone chooses uncertainty over another compulsion, they’re teaching their brain something powerful:

I don’t need OCD to make this decision for me.

Recovery isn’t about getting rid of doubt.

It’s about learning that you can live a meaningful life even when doubt shows up.

A lot of people living with contamination OCD don’t immediately recognize what’s happening.

Not because the fears aren’t distressing.

Because the behaviours have become part of everyday life.

Avoiding certain objects. Washing “just to be safe.” Creating rules around what feels clean and what doesn’t. Asking for reassurance. Throwing things away that don’t feel right.

Over time, these behaviours can start to feel normal, even when they’re taking up a significant amount of mental energy.

The reality is that contamination OCD isn’t really about germs.

It’s about uncertainty.

The fear of what *might* happen, and the overwhelming urge to do something to prevent it.

If you saw yourself in these slides, know that you’re not alone. OCD is incredibly convincing, but with the right support, it is possible to step out of the cycle and start taking your life back.

💙 Recovery doesn’t begin when fear disappears.

It begins when you decide fear doesn’t get to make all of your decisions anymore.
