For CPR & AED Awareness Week, we’re bringing back one of our viral videos.

Immediate action makes all the difference during cardiac arrest.

Women are less likely to receive bystander CPR than men, often because people hesitate to step in.

For a pregnant woman, that hesitation could put two lives at risk.

At Action First Aid, we’re on a mission to empower people to take action, remove hesitation, and remind everyday people that doing something is better than doing nothing.

What actually happens during a stroke? 🧠⚠️

A stroke happens when blood flow to part of the brain is interrupted, cutting off oxygen and nutrients the brain needs to survive. This is a time-sensitive emergency.

There are 2 main types of stroke:
🩸 Ischemic Stroke (blood clot)
🩸 Hemorrhagic Stroke (bleeding in the brain)

The only way to know which type is happening is through brain imaging; which is why calling 911 immediately is so important.

📌 Come back for our next post on how to recognize the signs of a stroke using FAST:
Face drooping
Arm weakness
Speech difficulties
Time to call 911

What’s the safest way to remove a tick?
Based on our last video… it’s probably not what you think.

A lot of people commented that you should twist a tick when removing it, but our friends at .bowtie shared that the recommended method has changed over time.

The safest method is to use a tick removal tool and pull straight upward with steady, even pressure.

Why?
Ticks are small, delicate arachnids, and twisting or squeezing them can increase the risk of breaking them apart during removal.

Huge thank you to .bowtie for helping us bust this common myth and keep both people and pets safer 🐶🩺

This trending scene from The Pitt highlights a critical gap in cardiac care: hesitation to perform proper procedures on a woman’s chest can cost valuable time.

In the scene, an EKG isn’t done correctly due to reluctance to move breast tissue, resulting in an inaccurate reading that could impact diagnosis and the urgency of care.

Unfortunately, this isn’t just TV drama.

In real emergencies, interventions like defibrillation require precise pad placement on the chest to work effectively. Hesitation or discomfort can delay or reduce the chance of survival.

And the data reflects it: women are less likely to receive bystander CPR and defibrillation than men.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women.
We can’t afford hesitation in cardiac emergencies.

We must do better.

Our mission is to empower people to take action through access, awareness, and education. Follow along to learn how you can help.
