The world feels a little less sparkly today. 🤍✨
There’s a strange kind of grief that can come with losing someone we never actually knew.
With the passing of Dolly Parton millions of people are grieving someone they never met — and that grief can be very real.
Psychologically, we can form what are called parasocial relationships: one-sided emotional connections with public figures who become familiar parts of our lives.
Maybe their music plays during our childhood. Their movies remind us of our mothers or grandmothers. I know she does for me. So when someone like Dolly dies, sometimes we aren’t only grieving her.
We may also be grieving the version of ourselves that existed alongside her. Possibly a childhood memory and a simpler time. Grief has an incredible ability to reach backwards doesn’t it?
Dolly was especially unique because what she represented went far beyond music.
She was unapologetically herself. Big hair. Big personality. Big dreams. Big heart.
She seemed to understand something many of us spend years trying to learn in therapy:
you don’t have to make yourself smaller to make other people comfortable.
There was something infectious about the way she expressed love, humour, femininity, generosity and individuality. Her decades-long legacy also extended far beyond entertainment into philanthropy and children’s literacy.
Maybe that is another reason losing cultural icons can hurt so deeply.
They can represent qualities we admire, identities we are growing into, or permission we haven’t quite learned to give ourselves yet.
Regardless, The world feels a little less sparkly today and Dolly will be deeply missed✨

First day on the job as Gerdau’s Resident In-House Registered Social Worker & Psychotherapist — and all I can say is WOW.
I feel incredibly honoured to have the opportunity to step inside this organization and support the people who keep it moving every day.
Today was eye-opening in the best possible way. I had the chance to meet employees across different departments, learn more about the work they do, and begin understanding the unique realities, pressures, and strengths that exist within this workplace.
Thank you to Gerdau for trusting Vault Mental Health with something so important. I cannot wait to see what the next six months bring.
This partnership represents what workplace mental health can look like when we move beyond simply saying, “We have an EAP.”
It’s about walking the walk.
It’s increasing awareness.
It’s empowering employees and leaders to recognize and prioritize their mental health.
It’s making support visible, approachable, and easier to access.
And most importantly, it’s bringing mental health care directly into the places where people spend so much of their lives.
My goal over the next six months is to create a safe, confidential and familiar space within the working walls of Gerdau — reducing barriers to care and helping make accessing mental health support feel more seamless, human, and normalized.
Here’s to bridging the gap between workplaces and mental health care. 💛

There has been so much in the news lately that has made me think about mothers, mental health, grief, and how much pain can exist behind closed doors.

With the heartbreaking news of Hayden Panettiere’s passing, I found myself thinking about how openly she spoke over the years about her experience with postpartum depression, addiction, grief, and the stigma surrounding mental health.

At the same time, many of us are watching the Lindsay Clancy trial unfold, where postpartum mental illness, postpartum psychosis, loss, and unimaginable grief have become part of an incredibly difficult and complex public conversation.

I don’t share these stories to suggest that their experiences are the same.

They aren’t.

But both bring forward something we do not talk about enough:

how grief and mental health can become deeply intertwined.

Grief can come from the loss of a person.

But grief can also come from the loss of who you thought you would be.

The loss of your old identity.

The loss of your body as you knew it.

The loss of sleep.

The loss of independence.

The loss of a relationship as it once was.

The loss of the version of motherhood you expected to experience. ( MORE IN CMNTS)

What exactly is mindfulness?

It’s more than meditation or taking a deep breath. Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present with what is happening right now—without judgment 🪷

A moment of appreciation. 🤎
The laughter, the smiles, the challenges, the questions, the compassion, the fierce determination — every emotion this team brings into my days fills my cup in ways I can’t fully put into words. As a business owner and therapist, I feel incredibly lucky to be surrounded by humans who show up so fully, so authentically, and so intentionally.
And to our clients — the ones who trust us with their stories — thank you. You are the heartbeat of these spaces. You fill these walls with laughter, with tears, with growth, with courage, and with so much meaning.
There truly isn’t anything better than this and the smile on my face says it all.

Wow! I must say, today’s speech from .thomas_rmt had every hair on my body standing up. Sharing our motherhood sorrows, struggles, and stories is so incredibly important so that others know they are not alone. The feeling of togetherness, vulnerability, and connection today was so powerful.

Candice, thank you for leading us through Flora’s Walk and for creating something that has brought so much hope, love, and support to so many families for the past 5 years. You are an inspiration. 🤍

Maternal mental health — including postpartum and perinatal mental health — is such an important conversation that deserves more awareness, compassion, and support. Becoming a mother is a journey that can be both beautiful and deeply overwhelming all at once. It can shake you to your core in ways no one fully prepares you for.

At Vault Mental Health, we believe no mother should ever have to struggle in silence. Therapy, community, and safe spaces matter — especially during seasons of transition, identity shifts, and emotional overwhelm. From one mom to another: you are not alone, and you do not have to carry it all by yourself. 🤍

I am so incredibly thankful to have found such a beautiful community during the beginning stage of motherhood of my own life through , an amazing doctor (Jennifer McNaughton), new mom friends & annnnnd most importantly — therapy.

I’m so proud to have been part of such an amazing day surrounded by such a vibrant and supportive community here in Barrie!
