No safety glasses? At the very least, wear your sunglasses outside and protect your eyes from the sun as well!

Today is World Sight Day!

So close to Thanksgiving, the theme of is perfect as it reminds us to be thankful of the sight we have.

It's also a great reminder to take care of your eyes. We try our best to reach everyone with our reminders to let you know when you are due, but if you feel like there are changes or that it has been a while since you've had your eyes checked, please reach out to us! We are happy to book you in for an eye exam whenever you feel you need one.

Did you know? Our office is equipped with an IPL machine to help in the management of dry eye symptoms! IPL sessions also come with some added benefits for the skin as well, so it's basically a spa day for the eyes!

What to expect: 3-4 sessions, and ~3-4 weeks between each session.

Each session takes ~ 30 minutes, where the doctor will use the machine to flash intense light pulses around the undereye area. The heat from the light "melts" the oils in our meibomian glands to help it flow better and help your eyes retain moisture longer.

Optical Coherence Tomography (or OCT) is one of the tests we offer at our practice, and Dr. Chan strongly recommends it for every one of her patients. OCT uses light waves to take cross-section images of your retina and show each distinctive layer and can illuminate issues that are not yet visible with just retinal photos.

With these scans, optometrists are able to measure retinal thickness and changes over time. They also guide treatment for glaucoma as well as retinal disease, like age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic eye disease.

While OHIP does not currently cover the fee for OCT scans, most extended health benefits will cover a portion or all of the associated costs.

Time flies! September is just around the corner, add an eye exam to your back to school checklist! Children aged 0-19 are covered for a full eye exam once every 12 months with a valid health card. Give us a call/e-mail to see if your kids are due to get their eyes checked before school starts!
