In July 2026, veterinarians confirmed Saskatchewan's first case of rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV2). RHDV2 is a highly contagious and often fatal disease of domestic rabbits, feral rabbits, wild rabbits and hares. It doesn't cause disease in humans or other animal species.

🐇 If you own rabbits, please take these important steps:

• contact your local veterinarian to have rabbits annually vaccinated for RHDV2
• keep rabbits housed indoors since the disease can be spread by contact or through food
• prevent contact with wild rabbits, hares or feral rabbits

Visit the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) website for more information about RHDV2: https://inspection.canada.ca/en/animal-health/terrestrial-animals/diseases/immediately-notifiable/rabbit-haemorrhagic-disease-0

You may have seen this lovely individual zooming around of clinic lately, but it’s time for a proper introduction! This is Dr. Alexandra Perry or Dr. Ali for short. She will be working with our team while covering Dr. Sam’s maternity leave. Dr. Ali brings ton of energy and knowledge to our Ferris Lane Team. And today of all days also happens to be National Hug your Cat Day! Dr. Ali is jumping right into the celebrations with this little cutie named Duckie. Make sure to give your feline friend an extra hug today, and maybe a treat too. 😉
Also be sure to say HI to Dr. Ali if you see her in the clinic🐱

Happy World Parrot Day from Dr. Julie’s own parrot Ozzy! Below are some fun parrot facts!
🦜 Why the Jurassic Park music? Parrots, and birds in general, are believed to be descendants from an avian dinosaur called Maniraptoran
🦜 They can develop a dominant foot. Like in humans where some are left handed vs right, parrots can display a preference when handling food or toys
🦜 They can outlive their owners. The parrot that holds the Guinness World Record title for oldest parrot in captivity lived to be 83yrs and 58 days old
🦜 Some parrots can talk, but they don’t have vocal cords. They produce sounds via vibration using a hollow "Y" shaped structure called a syrinx
🦜 Sizes vary. The largest species is the Hyacinth Macaw which can grow to 3ft (1m) in length. The smallest species is the Buff-faced Pygmy Parrot which is 3in (8cm) in length

Parrots are very intelligent and highly entertaining companions. But, they require a very knowledgeable and dedicated owner. Happy World Parrot Day to all our parrot patients! 🦜

Look at these cuties? How could we pick just one photo? In fact, we actually took over FIFTY photos! Bear and Bilbo are the sweetest Shih Tzu brothers! We had the pleasure of meeting them at their first vaccine visit with Dr. Ali. We can’t wait to watch them grow 😍
