A big warm welcome to Maggie!

Maggie is a New Registrant midwife who will be joining LCM on Team Blue. Maggie will be running some clinic days starting next week, and will start on call days in the fall. We know she will be a great addition to our team!

The most popular weeks to be born were April 6-12 where we welcomed 11 babies, and May 11-17 when we welcomed 10 babies between our two teams! 🧡💙

Our West Lincoln Memorial Hospital launched its Hospitalist Midwifery Program in 2024, making it one of the first hospitals in Ontario and Canada to employ midwives as hospital staff.

Early data from the program shows benefits for patients, care teams and the hospital since the addition of hospitalist midwives, who work with obstetricians, family physicians and community-based midwives.

Hey, LCM community 👋 We are looking for volunteers to participate in an upcoming ultrasound training course! Our midwives are working on gaining skills in point of care ultrasound, and the first step is through a course. If you are pregnant, Will be >28 weeks May 15 and would be willing to help us out for an hour, please contact Jenn ([email protected]) or sign up at your next appointment.

The Association of Ontario Midwives is calling on the Ministry of Health to implement recommendations made by an independent third-party Mediator to treat midwives comparably to other health professions--or risk losing them.

In her report, the Mediator, Beverly Mathers, recommended that midwives receive similar redress provided to physicians, nurses and other public sector workers to make up for the province's unconstitutional compensation restraint legislation and policies.

The report states that "... there is no mathematical equation that puts Ontario's midwives anywhere but further behind economically" because of the Ministry's compensation restraints.
