🌿 Please join us in welcoming three new therapists to the Anxiety & Trauma Clinic of Nova Scotia! 🌿

We're thrilled to introduce three skilled clinicians whose combined expertise spans trauma processing, neurodevelopmental support, and evidence-based therapy for anxiety β€” and all three are currently accepting new clients.

Mallory Mason, RCT-C holds an MA in Counselling Psychology, a BA in Psychology from Saint Mary's University, and a Social Services diploma from NSCC. She works alongside adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, trauma, depression, relational challenges and life's harder transitions, grounding her work in evidence-based, trauma-informed and cognitive-behavioural (CBT) approaches while staying flexible and attuned to what each client actually needs in the room. Warmth, curiosity, and zero judgment.

Jiji Lathika, RCT-C is a Certified Autism Specialist with graduate degrees in Applied Clinical and Consulting Psychology and over a decade of experience across India and Canada β€” including work as a Child Clinical Psychologist and an Autism Program Implementer with Nova Scotia Health and the IWK. Jiji supports children, teens, young adults and families around anxiety, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, trauma, learning and behavioural challenges, and emotional regulation, blending CBT, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Parent Management Training (PMT), and trauma-informed, family-centred care. Jiji is accepting clients aged 5 and up.

Matt Mason, RCT-C holds a BSc (Honours) in Psychology from Saint Mary's University and an MA in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. His trauma focus began during his practicum offering pro bono support to adults carrying trauma, anxiety and depression. Matt works from a deep toolkit β€” CPT, EMDR, CBT, DBT and ACT β€” and approaches trauma in three phases: safety and stability, then processing, then reconnection. Because healing shouldn't be rushed. Matt is accepting clients aged 16 and up.

Whether you're looking for trauma processing, support for a neurodivergent child, parenting strategies that actually fit your family, or practical tools for anxiety β€” we'd love to help you find the right fit.

Did you know ADHD's diagnostic criteria were built almost entirely from studies on hyperactive young boys?

That's a big reason so many women go undiagnosed for decades their ADHD looks different: less hyperactive, more inattentive, more "why can't I just keep it together like everyone else." Often it gets mislabeled as anxiety instead.

If that sounds familiar, this symptom checklist is a good starting point (not a diagnosis, but something to bring to a professional):

If it resonates, we're here β€” our team at the Anxiety & Trauma Clinic of Nova Scotia knows how ADHD, anxiety, depression and/or trauma often get tangled together. 🌱

🌟 Join Us for the 1st Annual Steppin' Out for PANS/PANDAS Walk β€” Bedford, NS! 🌟

Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 19th and come walk with us for our very first Bedford PANS/PANDAS walk!

PANS/PANDAS is a devastating illness that can change a child seemingly overnight β€” and too few families know it exists. We're bringing our community together to change that: to raise awareness, raise funds, and remind every PANS/PANDAS family that they are not alone.
Here's how you can help:

πŸ‘£ Walk with us β€” bring the kids, the stroller, the dog, your whole crew
πŸ’• Donate β€” every dollar moves research and support forward, no amount is too small
🀝 Sponsor the event β€” help us make this the best first walk it can be

This isn't just a fundraiser β€” it's a day for PANS/PANDAS kids to take part, be seen, and be celebrated. Kids are welcome to be involved in the event itself, and families are invited to share their story β€” or a piece of it β€” if they'd like. Every journey looks different, and we'd be honoured to help hold space for yours.
Bring your family. Bring your friends. Bring anyone who wants to stand with us.

πŸ“ Details and sign-up below
❓ Questions? Send us a message β€” we're happy to help!

Let's make some noise for these amazing kids. See you there! πŸ’•

🌿 Beyond Reliving the Trauma: A Gentler Path to Healing
We're proud to share this thoughtful piece from our therapist, Pam Rubin

For too long, survivors of trauma have been asked to repeatedly retell and "unpack" their most painful memoriesβ€”an approach that can leave people feeling re-traumatized rather than healed.

Pam explores a gentler, more effective way forward: an approach that focuses on calming the nervous system rather than disrupting it, and on what a person is experiencing now rather than forcing them back into their worst moments.

At its heart, this work is about helping survivors build a new, more compassionate relationship with themselvesβ€”noticing their survival responses with curiosity instead of shame, and coming to trust that they're safe in the present.

If you or someone you love has ever felt that therapy asks too much before you're ready, this one's worth a read. πŸ’›

Traditional trauma therapies can retraumatize child sexual abuse survivors. Discover how TIST offers a gentle, present-focused path to lasting recovery.
