✨ Lash Extensions & False Lashes: Beauty Without Compromising Eye Health ✨
Eyelash extensions and false lashes can be a fun way to enhance your look, but it’s important to keep your eyes healthy in the process!
👁️ Prioritize Hygiene
* Ensure lash technicians use clean tools and maintain proper sanitation practices.
* Clean your lash line regularly to prevent the buildup of oils, makeup, debris, and bacteria that can contribute to irritation, blepharitis, and styes.
👁️ Placement Matters
* Lash extensions should be attached to the natural lash, not directly to the skin.
* Avoid placing lashes too close to the eyelid margin. The openings of your meibomian glands (the glands that produce the oily layer of your tears) are located along the lid margin and can become blocked or irritated when lashes are improperly positioned.
* Lower lash extensions are generally not recommended, as they can interfere with these important gland openings and increase the risk of irritation.
👁️ Watch for Allergic Reactions
* Some individuals may develop redness, itching, swelling, or discomfort from lash adhesives.
* If you experience any of these symptoms, remove the lashes and seek professional advice.
👁️ Protect Your Cornea
* Extensions or false lashes that are too long, too stiff, or improperly applied can rub against the surface of the eye (cornea), causing irritation, scratches, and discomfort.
* If your eyes feel scratchy, watery, or sensitive to light after application, it’s important to have your lashes evaluated.
