a PSA for any pregnant or postpartum person going down the rabbit hole right now. πŸ’™

Hi, I'm Liza β€” social worker at Diamond Physiotherapy and retired midwife.

if you are having thoughts of harming yourself or your children, or feel like you are losing touch with reality, please go to your nearest emergency department or seek medical care immediately. 🚨

but there is something equally important that needs to be said:

**intrusive thoughts are a normal part of postpartum.**

those unwanted, distressing "what if" thoughts about your baby? it's estimated that 70–100% of parents experience them. they are terrifying. they can carry a lot of shame. and they are not a sign of postpartum psychosis.

I know because I had them too.

intrusive thoughts may be connected to postpartum anxiety, OCD or depression β€” but they are not the same as psychosis. and the difference matters.

please do not turn to AI or social media to sort this out. talk to a human. ideally someone with perinatal mental health training. πŸ’™

we are here to help you figure out what is concerning and what is normal. you do not have to navigate this alone.

Diamond Physiotherapy's First Book Review β€” by Liza πŸ“šπŸ’™

Hi, I'm Liza β€” social worker, former midwife, and someone who cannot resist a book that tackles real life through fiction.

So when I stumbled across a romcom where the main character has secondary vaginismus β€” involuntary muscle spasms that impact or limit s*x β€” I was absolutely picking that up. πŸ‘€

Here's what I loved:

πŸ“– It's genuinely funny. Like, laugh out loud, genitalia humour in the workplace funny. Liza approved. πŸ˜‚

πŸ’™ It goes beyond the physical. The author doesn't just address the pain β€” she captures how the condition ripples into identity, relationships, friendships and focus at work. That part hit differently.

πŸ”₯ Surprisingly not spicy. The intimate scenes are more emotional than graphic. Honest rather than steamy β€” and honestly, more powerful for it.

🧁 Bonus: there may or may not be a parking lot cupcake fight. I have questions. I also have no complaints.

My one (very biased) note β€” the main character absolutely could have used some mental health support alongside her pelvic physiotherapy. Just saying. πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

Every end of July I do something that might surprise you. πŸ‘‡

I close the clinic. Completely. For a whole week. Forced shutdown. Everyone goes home. Nobody works. Non negotiable.

And I do it because we live in a society that has somehow convinced us that being busy is a badge of honour. That doing more is always better. That rest is something you earn rather than something you need. 🚫

I am absolutely one of those people. I do a lot. You've seen the list. πŸ˜‚

But even I know that you cannot pour from an empty cup. And a team that never stops is a team that eventually burns out. So we stop. Together. On purpose. Every single year. ✨

I haven't been on social media much recently either. And I'm not sorry about that. I've been present with my family, soaking up the time and filling my own cup back up. Because THAT matters too. πŸ’œ

So if you're reading this and you haven't taken a day off, a weekend away or a proper holiday in longer than you can remember β€” this is your sign. πŸ‘‡

Put it in the calendar. Right now. A day of nothing counts. A walk counts. An afternoon on the couch counts. Rest is not lazy. Rest is necessary.

Go do it. You've earned it. ✨

when a review leaves you genuinely emotional πŸ₯ΉπŸ’™

"I've been waking up screaming from pain and couldn't find relief anywhere. After one session with Dr. Brandon… no more screaming."

that right there is why we do what we do. πŸ’™

real healing isn't always instant β€” but that subtle, constant improvement? that's your body responding to care that actually gets to the root of the problem.

we are so proud to have Dr. Brandon on our team and so grateful to our patient for trusting us with something so painful and so personal. 🀍

if you've been struggling and nothing has worked yet β€” we'd love to help. πŸ‘‡
