Anxiety visited the therapy room today. 🤍

Instead of asking it to leave, we explored ways to support it gently.

Through play, storytelling, comfort snacks, movement, cozy spaces, deep breaths, and connection, we showed children that anxiety doesn’t have to be handled alone.

Sometimes the goal isn’t to make anxiety disappear.
Sometimes the goal is helping a child feel safe enough to understand it, care for it, and move through it with support.

In this post, we shared a few ways anxiety can be welcomed into the space - with curiosity, compassion, and play.

As the weather gets warmer, many children begin noticing more people experiencing homelessness in their communities. These moments can bring up big questions, and books can help us respond with compassion, honesty, and empathy. 🤍

Here are some of our favourite children’s books to help start age-appropriate conversations about homelessness, kindness, community, and caring for others.

Teaching children empathy doesn’t start with having all the “right” answers — it starts with creating space for curiosity, understanding, and humanity.

Starting a new series: therapy tools parents can borrow 🧰✨

One of our favourites is P.A.C.E: a parenting and relationship approach that helps children feel safe, understood, and connected. P.A.C.E comes from Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), a relational neuroscience-informed approach that highlights the importance of safe, connected relationships in healing and development.

Think of it as the “ketchup” of connection… because you can add it to almost anything 🍟❤️

Small shifts in how we respond can make a big difference in how children experience support.

At Family Tree Therapy, ongoing learning is an essential part of how we show up for the children and families we support. Our child therapists are currently engaged in Play Therapy training throughout the spring and summer, and we are proud members of the Canadian Association for Play Therapy, which supports our commitment to ethical practice and professional accountability.

We look forward to continuing to integrate what we are learning into our daily work in thoughtful, practical ways that support the emotional needs of children and families.

Motherhood is part love, part emotional support, part crisis management, and part trying to remember why you walked into the room. 🤍

To the moms co-regulating nervous systems, translating tiny human emotions, carrying the mental load, and doing their best with interrupted thoughts and cold coffee, we see you.

Happy Mother’s Day to the caregivers holding so much, often without pause. 🌿

Mental Health Week is a reminder that mental health is something we all carry through different seasons of life: including children, teens, and the adults who care for them.

At Family Tree Therapy, we believe support should extend across the whole family system. Children thrive when they feel understood and emotionally safe, and caregivers thrive when they feel supported rather than stretched alone.

This week is an invitation to check in, not just on how your child is doing, but on how you are doing too. Because no one is meant to hold it all by themselves.

If you’re looking for support, connection, or a place to begin, there are resources available and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
