Burnout is often described as "just stress," but the reality is much more complex. Burnout develops when chronic stress goes unmanaged over time, leading to emotional exhaustion, detachment, and a reduced sense of effectiveness.

In our latest blog, we explore the signs of burnout, why it happens, how it affects mental and physical health, and practical strategies for prevention and recovery. We also discuss why burnout is not a personal failure, but often the result of prolonged demands outweighing available resources.

If you've been feeling constantly exhausted, disconnected, or like you're running on empty, this blog may help you better understand what you're experiencing and what steps you can take to support your well-being.

Many autistic individuals know exactly what they need to do, yet still struggle to get started, stay organized, or follow through. Someone who appears to be coping well on the surface may still be experiencing significant stress, exhaustion, or overwhelm internally.

Our newest blog explores masking in autism: what it is, why autistic individuals may mask, how it can hide challenges from others, and the emotional toll it can take over time. We also discuss ways parents, educators, and clinicians can create environments that support authenticity rather than performance.

The PARC (Pediatric Autism Research Cohort) Study at Queen’s University is inviting families of newly-diagnosed Autistic children to participate in research exploring how children grow and develop over time.

Participation involves completing online questionnaires every 6 months (about 2-3 hours total per wave) until age 8. Families receive individualized research summary reports that track changes in their child’s symptoms, skills, and abilities over time, along with a $20 gift card to a store of their choice.

For many students, tests can feel overwhelming, stressful, and emotionally charged, and that stress doesn’t always reflect what they truly know. Test anxiety can make it harder to think clearly, recall information, and show what they’re capable of, especially during high-pressure evaluations. If this is something your child has been struggling with, you’re not alone.

In this week’s blog, we explore what test anxiety is, what it can look like, common reasons it develops, and practical ways to support children and teens in building emotional resilience and confidence during test season. These helpful strategies can help to make a meaningful difference.
