📢 WHY DO PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS FEEL MORE TIRED?

Have you ever felt exhausted after a social gathering, even though you didn't do much physically?

Hearing loss can actually make your brain work harder. When sounds become more difficult to hear, your brain spends extra energy trying to fill in the missing pieces of conversations.

This is called "listening fatigue," and it's a common sign of hearing loss.

If you find yourself feeling drained after family dinners, meetings, or social events, it may be time to have your hearing checked.

A hearing test is quick, painless, and can help identify whether hearing loss may be contributing to your fatigue.

GAMES THAT HELP HEARING

Smartphones have been used as hearing assistance devices for a while, but now they can play a role in maintaining or even improving hearing ability. Many entertaining apps are geared toward smaller children (under the age of 12) with auditory comprehension and/or processing disorders. These apps can help them learn to focus through hearing difficulties, greatly improving their auditory attention. Other apps are designed for any age and can help train the auditory system to focus in a variety of environments for those with hearing issues and those without who still have trouble understanding conversations in noisy situations. Many of the apps can even be fine-tuned to suit a person’s specific needs.
Smartphones are everywhere these days, and their apps have far-reaching benefits other than viewing emails, playing games, and checking the weather. They can be valuable tools in enhancing hearing impaired individuals’ lives. Do you have questions about your hearing? Please call BOBCAYGEON HEARING SERVICE to schedule a hearing test. Diagnosis of a hearing impairment and decisions about the best kind of hearing aid for individual needs are best left to a skilled, specially trained registered audiologist, such as you’ll find here at our clinic.
P.S. There are several apps available that can help those with hearing deficits learn to improve their pronunciation.

Can earbuds and headphones damage your hearing?

They can… if used the wrong way.

The biggest risks come from:
• High volume
• Long listening periods
• Noise-cancelling misuse

A simple rule: if someone beside you can hear your music, it’s too loud.

Protecting your hearing now means fewer problems later.

🎧 Listen smart.

Think You Need to Clean Your Ears? Here’s What You Should Know

A lot of people think earwax is something that needs to be cleaned out regularly…

But in most cases, that’s not true.

Earwax actually plays an important role in keeping your ears healthy. It helps:
• Trap dust and debris
• Protect against bacteria
• Keep the ear canal from becoming too dry

Your ears are designed to clean themselves naturally.

So what happens when you use cotton swabs?

Instead of removing wax, they often:
• Push it deeper into the ear
• Create blockages over time
• Irritate the ear canal

That “clean” feeling can actually lead to more problems down the road.

When should you have your ears checked?

You may have a buildup if you notice:
• Muffled or reduced hearing
• A plugged or full feeling
• Ringing or discomfort

What’s the safest option?

If something doesn’t feel right, it’s best to have it looked at professionally.

At Bobcaygeon Hearing Care, we can:
• Check if earwax is the issue
• Safely remove buildup if needed
• Make sure your ears are healthy and clear

Taking care of your ears isn’t about cleaning them more…
It’s about taking care of them properly.

NOISE-INDUCED HEARING LOSS

Prolonged exposure to loud noises or sudden bursts of loud sound can damage the sensitive hair cells of the inner ear that help transfer sound waves into electrical signals. When these hair cells are damaged, they do not regenerate, leading to noise-induced hearing loss. Exposure to extremely loud noises like explosions can cause immediate, permanent damage to hearing in a single instance. Continuous exposure to lower levels of loud noise can also cause permanent, noise-induced hearing loss. Longterm, continuous exposure to a noisy job environment is one of the most common causes of noise-induced hearing loss. Working in a bar, restaurant, or construction site, or even listening to headphones at loud volume, can all cause noise-induced hearing loss.
Helping our patients understand their hearing impairments and learning about the various ways they can improve their quality of living are two of the most important services we provide at BOBCAYGEON HEARING SERVICE. It’s important to us that our family, friends, and neighbors here in BOBCAYGEON enjoy the world in which they live. We are committed to serving the needs of the hearing impaired. Can we help you? Let’s start with a hearing consultation and test. Then we’ll show you the amazing, revolutionary hearing instruments available today.
P.S. Temporary threshold shift occurs when the tiny hair cells in the inner ear become overstimulated and fatigued. It occurs after a loud-noise event like a concert.
