You don't have to simply "learn to live with it."

HEARING AID MYTHS AND FACTS: IT’S JUST AN AMPLIFIER

It’s true that hearing aids amplify sound, but that’s not the only thing they do. They use digital signal processing to improve speech clarity by boosting frequencies that are difficult to hear. They can also filter background noises, focus on certain sounds using directional microphones, and connect to both your personal devices and public sound systems. They don’t just make your hearing sound louder—they make it sound better. They are also custom programmed and adjusted to each ear, as hearing loss is not always symmetrical. Personal sound amplification products (PSAPs)—intended to amplify environmental sounds for people with normal hearing—can delay hearing loss treatment and may actually make hearing loss worse when used instead of hearing aids.
Most important of all, the right hearing instrument can turn your life around, enabling you to attain your peak level of hearing success. If you’d like to find out more about the innovative technology in today’s hearing instruments, contact us at BOBCAYGEON HEARING SERVICE. If you have a hearing instrument you are not happy with, bring it to us and we’ll be happy to check it out and discuss other hearing aid options with you. Your complete satisfaction is our ultimate goal, so all new hearing instrument sales come with a trial period.
P.S. According to a 2022 survey of hearing aid users, 64% of those who started wearing a hearing aid in the previous five years reported quality of life benefits.

Why Do Restaurants Suddenly Feel So Loud?

Do you find yourself avoiding restaurants because it's too difficult to follow conversations?

You're not alone.

Difficulty hearing speech in noisy places is often one of the earliest signs of hearing loss. Your ears may hear all the sounds around you, but your brain struggles to separate speech from background noise.

You shouldn't have to miss out on family dinners or social events because hearing has become frustrating.

Book a hearing assessment at Bobcaygeon Hearing Service and let us help you get back to enjoying the conversations that matter most.

Can Hearing Loss Increase Your Risk of Dementia?

Research has found a strong connection between untreated hearing loss and an increased risk of cognitive decline.

When your brain has to work harder just to understand conversations, it has fewer resources available for memory and thinking. Over time, this extra strain may contribute to memory problems and social isolation.

The good news is that treating hearing loss may help reduce that listening effort while keeping you connected to the people and activities you enjoy most.

If you've noticed you're asking people to repeat themselves more often or avoiding conversations because they're becoming difficult, don't ignore the signs.

At Bobcaygeon Hearing Service, we're committed to helping you protect your hearing and maintain your quality of life. Contact us today to book a comprehensive hearing assessment.

WHAT IS OTOACOUSTIC EMISSIONS TESTING FOR HEARING LOSS?

The cochlea is located in the inner ear. Within the cochlea are tiny hair cells that vibrate in response to sound. The vibrations make their own very quiet noises called otoacoustic emissions (OAEs). These sounds echo and bounce back out through your outer ear canal and can thus be measured objectively without the need for patient response. This is an easy way for audiologists to tell if the inner ear is producing a healthy response to sound. A probe with a speaker and microphones is placed in the ear canal to measure the emissions. If OAEs are detected, this means the hair cells of the inner ear are working properly, and the issue causing hearing loss is located elsewhere.
A key element of the services we provide at BOBCAYGEON HEARING SERVICE is helping our patients comprehend the scope of their hearing impairments and become aware of the various ways they can improve their quality of living. It’s important to us that our family, friends, and neighbors here in Lindsay enjoy the world in which they live. We are committed to serving the needs of the hearing impaired. Can we help you? Let’s start with a hearing consultation and test. Then we’ll show you the amazing, revolutionary hearing instruments available today.
P.S. A normal OAE test shows that there are no blockages, the eardrum moves normally, and the impedance matching system is functioning.
