Difference between hydrosol and essential oil:

This is the question I am asked most often, so I apologize it’s taken me so long to make a post about it!

Hydrosol:

The definition of hydrosol is a suspension of compounds in water. This suspension is a result of the steam distillation process used to produce essential oil from plants. Here is a quick summary of the steam distillation process:

1. The steam from the boiler passes up through the plant material in the still and extracts all of the volatile components from the plant.
2. The steam and vapour from the plant then travels up into a condenser that is cooled with water to cause the vapour to condense back into liquid form.
3. The distillate (liquid collected during the distillation) is poured into a separatory funnel (which you can see in the second picture), that allows the oil to float to the top of the solution.

Since oil is lighter than water, a layer of essential oil floats to the top of the solution. The hydrosol can then be drained from the funnel until only the oil remains, and the hydrosol has been completely separated from the oil.

Most hydrosols available on the market are produced as a byproduct of the essential oil production, with all of the essential oil removed before sale. Our wild mint and yarrow hydrosol however were made with the intention of producing a high quality hydrosol, and no oil was ever removed! This means you are getting 100% of all the amazing plant components that are extracted during the distillation together in one nice grab and go spray bottle!

These hydrosols have been my best sellers at the markets this summer, and the most used products in our household as well, so I am continuing the 2 for $25 dollar deal on our website as well!

Wow, Thanksgiving already, I honestly can’t believe it!

I have so much to be thankful for, this year more than ever before, but I will try to keep this short and sweet (that’s probably not going to happen, apologies in advance lol).

I am thankful for:
- The amazing support of my family and friends as I set out on my new life journey.
- To have been born and raised in this amazing Country. I am constantly astonished by the endless beauty and biodiversity of our land, and I am so thankful to be dedicating my life to learning more about the Canadian wilderness.
- For the support of this amazing community and all of my wonderful customers.
- Most of all, and this may sound a bit off putting to some, but I think it is very important to acknowledge in this day in age. I am so thankful to have had the courage and ability to do everything I have done in my life that has gotten me to this point. I am so thankful that my upbringing and life experiences have given me the courage to start my own business and manifest a life that is so ideally suited for my values and interests. It took me 30 years to get to this point, but I finally feel like I am on the right path, and am doing something I was truly meant to be doing.
