A 24-foot ramp may be manageable when the rise is lower and the property has enough room.

Increase the rise to three feet, and that can become 36 feet of ramp—often with turns and landings added to make it fit.

Not every space can accommodate an elevator or a vertical platform lift to improve accessibility. That is where an inclined platform lift can come into the picture. Our direct office in British Columbia recognized it at this school in Williams Lake. The Pegasaus moves along the staircase, navigating through all the turns. When not in use, the platform, access ramps and safety arms fold up to clear up space. A great installation by Western Elevator!

With a curved staircase, the rail should be custom-made to keep it tight the wall and deliver a smooth ride. The Handicare Freecurve rail is fabricated in North America and only takes a couple of weeks to make. And that's important, because by the time most people start looking for a stairlift, they don't want to wait—they already need one.
