This International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember the people we’ve lost to overdose and the people who continue to carry that loss with them.

Because behind every overdose statistic is a person. A friend. A neighbour. A loved one. Someone’s someone. Knowing how to recognize an overdose and what to do next can save a life. Swipe through to learn the signs. If you think someone is experiencing an opioid overdose, call 911 and give naloxone if you have it. This August 31, learn the signs. Share what you know. And remember the people behind the numbers.

If you’re in crisis, call or text 9-8-8 for free, confidential support, 24/7. Learn more: https://cmhapeeldufferin.ca/international-overdose-awareness-day-2026/

🎥 Introducing Myth vs. Fact!
We're kicking off a new series where CMHA Peel Dufferin clinicians help separate common mental health myths from the facts. For our first post, we're tackling a popular misconception:

Myth: Therapy is just a venting session.
Fact: Therapy is more than talking. It's an investment in your mental health and well-being, providing tools and strategies to support lasting growth.

Watch as one of our DBT counsellors breaks down this myth and shares what therapy is really about.

Mental health advocacy doesn't stop at the CFAC table!

In this video, Shak shares how his commitment to mental health advocacy extends beyond his role on CMHA Peel Dufferin's Client and Family Advisory Council (CFAC). Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology, he brings both his lived experience and academic perspective to conversations about mental health, recovery, and system improvement.

Since joining CFAC, Shak has continued to deepen his involvement with CMHA Peel Dufferin and now serves as a member of our Board of Directors, helping ensure client and community voices are reflected at every level of the organization.
