April 29, 1954 - August 29, 2026

Arthur Ralph Penner was born to Jacob and Mary Penner of Justice MB on April 29, 1954. His home all his life was the family farm near Justice.

From the beginning of his life, Art’s parents took him to church at Justice Mennonite Brethren Church where he learned about God, the Bible, accepting Jesus’ gift of forgiveness and how to live life God‘s way. He committed his life to following Jesus and was baptized.

A highlight for Art was when his parents took the family to visit his mom’s family in Ontario every summer where they enjoyed time with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Art started school at Norman School . Even though he didn’t speak English when he started school, he did well. He attended Justice School , then Forrest Elementary School . He graduated from Elton Collegiate in 1972. After graduation, Art went to Winkler Bible Institute for a year where he made lifelong friends.

Art was a trucker for a few years before starting farming full-time. Art and his brother, Paul, helped their dad on the family farm when they were young, then their dad helped them start their own farming operation.

Art enjoyed music. As a child, he took violin lessons. Later he taught himself how to play banjo and guitar. He sang in the church choir and enjoyed singing as part of quartets.

As a child, Art liked skating and playing hockey. He played school sports such as basketball and track and field. As Art grew up, he continued to play hockey and community ball. He did motorcycle trips and winter holidays with his friends.

Art rode horseback and enjoyed doing some roping with his friends in Boissevain.

Art married Carla Brown on November 9, 1996. Art always loved being around kids and was so happy to welcome their son Nolan in 2001 and their daughter Randi in 2006. They enjoyed life on the farm and family trips together. Art was always involved and supportive of his children’s activities.

Art served on the Elton Municipal Council as a councilor and Deputy Reeve from 1989-2010.

Art had grown up with cows on the farm and Carla brought cows back to the farm as well as horses. Eventually, Carla sold the cattle and focused on her horse breeding operation. Art always helped Carla with the livestock.

Art and Paul farmed together for 50 years. In recent years, Paul’s son, Ryan, joined the farming operation.

Art passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 29, 2026 .

Art is predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Mary Penner, his parents-in-law Lyall and Gert Brown as well as many aunts and uncles and some cousins.

Art is survived by his loving wife, Carla, son Nolan, and daughter Randi. Also left to mourn his passing are his brother Paul (Shelley), their children Ryan (Kaitlyn) Penner, Jaclyn (Ryan) Suderman, and Christa (Simi) Falaye; his sister Louise (Steve) Klippenstein; sister-in-law Heather (Larry) Fast; great-nephews and nieces Bentley, Miles and Cheyenne Penner; Sadie, Mia and Olive Suderman; Ada and Elijah Falaye as well as many relatives and friends.

A public viewing will take place on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 9:30-10:30am at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon, MB.

Interment will follow at 11:00am at the Sparling Cemetery near Justice, MB.

Funeral service will be held at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, 635 McDiarmid Dr, Brandon, MB at 2:00pm, Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Wayne Henry Toews

Wayne Henry Toews, 70, of Rivers, Manitoba, passed away on August 30, 2026.

Wayne was born on August 16, 1956, to Harry and Elsie Toews in Dryden, Ontario. He grew up in the Vermilion Bay sharing many fond memories with his siblings and cousins. He enjoyed working various jobs in the forestry and farming as a young man. Additionally, he dedicated his life to ministry, serving as a missionary in India and Nepal, and as a pastor in Vermilion Bay, Ontario. In his retirement, he continued to preach and minister throughout the community of Rivers and the surrounding area. Wayne was a devoted follower of Jesus and reflected His love to everyone he met.

In 1983, Wayne married Shelagh after meeting on the mission field in India. Together, they shared 43 years of marriage and raised three children: Lianne, Ryan, and Greg.

Wayne was known for his unconditional kindness and generosity with his time and care for others. He was happiest when surrounded by family, playing with his grandchildren, or sharing a cup of coffee and a conversation with anyone he crossed paths with.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Elsie Toews; his brother, Alvin Toews; and his infant son, Dale Toews. He is survived by his wife, Shelagh; his children, Lianne, Ryan (Kathy-Jo), and Greg (Danica); his grandchildren, Maddie, Kayden, and Olivia; and many siblings and extended family members.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 6th, 2026 at the Riverdale Community Centre, located at 101 Main Street, Rivers, Manitoba.

Hazel Peech

December 10, 1949 ~ August 25, 2026

It is with deep sadness that the family of Hazel Peech announces her passing on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, with her family by her side.

Hazel was born on December 10, 1949, to John and Rose Deck. She grew up in a close-knit family alongside her brothers, Doug and Gerald “Jerry,” and her sister, Sylvia.

On November 9, 1968, Hazel married Melvin Peech. Together they built a life rooted in family, hard work and devotion to one another. They raised four children, Dean, Denise, Dion and Wayne, and over the years were blessed to see their family grow to include grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Hazel and Melvin made Brandon their home and spent many years building both a family and a livelihood there. Melvin worked in the janitorial business with Bee Clean Janitorial Co. Ltd., and the family was also involved in building and operating Giant Car/Truck Wash. Work and family life often went hand in hand, and the life Hazel and Melvin built together became an important part of the Peech family story.

Hazel was strong-willed, independent and never afraid to speak her mind. She knew what she believed and stood by it. Her family knew that once Hazel had made up her mind, changing it could be quite a challenge. That determination was part of her character and helped carry her through many difficult times in life.

Behind that strength was a woman who cared deeply for the people around her. Family was at the centre of Hazel’s life, and she showed her love in many ways.

One of those ways was cooking. Hazel loved preparing food for family and friends, and many will remember the meals that came from her kitchen. Feeding the people she loved was simply part of who she was. Her home and kitchen table became places where family gathered, stories were shared, laughter filled the room and memories were made.

Hazel faced one of the greatest losses of her life when Melvin passed away on August 2, 2003. The years they shared remained deeply important to her. She continued forward with strength and enjoyed watching her family grow, but Melvin and the life they had built together always remained close to her heart.

Hazel treasured opportunities to have her family together and often spoke about wanting another family reunion. Seeing her children, grandchildren and extended family gathered in one place brought her great happiness.

Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her children and their families: Dean Peech (Sharon Peech) and their daughter, Samantha Peech; Denise Peech (Donny Starr) and her daughter, Melanie Kozakevich; Dion Peech and his children, Michaela, Daylan Peech and Jessalyn Peech; and Wayne Peech, his children, Katie Humphreys (Richard) and Eryk, and Hazel’s great-granddaughter, Natalie.

She also leaves behind her sister, Sylvia, along with extended family, nieces and nephews, and many others whose lives she touched over the years.

Her grandchildren will remember a grandmother with a big personality, a good sense of humour and strong opinions. They will remember her cooking, her stories, her advice, her determination and all of the everyday moments that made time with Grandma special.

Hazel was predeceased by her beloved husband, Melvin; her parents, John and Rose Deck; and her brothers, Doug and Gerald “Jerry” Deck.

Hazel’s life was centred around the people she loved. Through the good times and the difficult ones, she remained devoted to her family and took great pride in watching it grow through the generations.

She leaves behind countless memories of meals shared together, conversations around the table, family gatherings, laughter and stories, along with the unmistakable personality that made Hazel who she was.

Her family will miss her deeply, but the strength, love and traditions she passed along will remain part of their lives for generations to come.

Prayers will take place at Memories Chapel, Brandon, Manitoba on Friday, September 4, 2026.

The Funeral Service will be held at St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Oakburn, Manitoba, on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. The Very Reverend Archpriest Brent Kuzyk will officiate. Interment will follow at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery.

For those unable to attend, both services will be webcast through Hazel’s memorial page at Memories Chapel.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Hazel may be made to The Canadian Lung Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Hazel will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and forever held in the hearts of her family.

May her memory be eternal.

July 30, 1950 – August 21, 2026

It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Shirley Dianne Hainsworth (née Radsma), who passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 21, 2026, at the age of 76.

Shirley was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba, on July 30, 1950. She grew up and attended school in Rapid City before making Brandon, Manitoba, her home for the remainder of her life. For many years, she was known as Shirley Turton.

Throughout her life, Shirley worked in several different roles, including at a flower shop, in retail, and supporting people with disabilities.

Shirley enjoyed fishing trips, camping at Pelican Lake, and spending time tending to her yard and plants. She will be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humour, and, of course, her stubborn streak. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Maria and Remmert Radsma, her brother Ben, and just 31 days prior her husband, Robert Hainsworth.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Brad Turton, Shawn Turton, and Scott (Joni) Turton; her grandchildren, Shawnee (Karissa), Trelle (Andrew), Haylee (Dylan), Olivia, Brandon (Hannah), Brody (Sarah), Drayton and Mason.

Shirley will also be deeply missed by her extended family and her many lifelong friends.

In accordance with Shirley’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who has assisted, reached out, or offered their help during this difficult time. Every gesture, offer, and moment of support has been truly appreciated.

Glenn Ralph Erskine

Glenn Ralph ERSKINE

Glenn Ralph Erskine beloved husband of Shirley (Lepka) Erskine was born July 31, 1933, on a farm near Gravelbourg, SK (S26 T11 R5 W3) to Jack and Alice (Hewitt) Erskine. Glenn passed away at age 93 on August 16, 2026, at Brandon Regional Health Centre.

After going to Gauthier school, Glenn worked for various farmers before moving to Brandon, Manitoba in 1954. He then worked as a labourer and later as a carpenter with various construction crews putting up buildings in Brandon. He also worked outside of Brandon on bridges and some other construction projects. Glenn built four family homes over the years. Glenn and Shirley were married on August 23, 1958. Daughter Judy was born 1960 and son Terry 1964.

Judy married Rick Darvill in February 1986. To this union, four children were born: Robert Glenn (stillborn), Matthew, Megan and Maxwell Darvill. Terry married Karen (Isfeld) in May 1986 and they had two sons, Taylor and Trent and a foster daughter, Henny Seers.

August of 2013 saw Glenn and Shirley moving to Crocus Gardens and then to Rotary Villas in April of 2023, moves they never regretted.

Glenn enjoyed fastball (his team was inducted into the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame in May 2015), curling, golfing, camping, being a Brandon Wheat King fan and meeting his friends for early morning coffee.

Glenn is survived by wife Shirley, daughter Judy (Rick) Darvill, son Terry (Karen Isfeld) Erskine, grandchildren Matthew Darvill, Megan (Shane) Keeping, Maxwell (Fiancée Hailey Davidson) Darvill, Taylor (Jenna Margetts) Erskine and Trent (Shanley Mowat) Erskine, foster granddaughter Henny Seers, great granddaughters Arya, Aubrey, Grae, Gage and great grandson Anson Erskine, sisters-in-law Marlene (Valness) Erskine, Joyce (Lepka) Andrechuk, and Cheryl (Neil) Glaser.

Predeceased by Mother Alice (Hewitt) in 1981 and Father Jack Erskine in 1987, brothers Gordon in 1942, Robert (Bob) in 2013, Russell in 1954 and Barrie Erskine in 2021, sister-in-law Bernice (Lange) Erskine in 2023, in-laws Frieda (Schepp) Lepka in 1993 and Harry Lepka in 1982, brother-in-law Garry Lepka in 1998, and grandson Robert Glenn Darvill (stillborn) in 1986.

Cremation has taken place. As per Glenns’ wishes, the family will cherish his memory privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or a charity of your choice.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Nell Strandberg at Valleyview Care Centre on Monday, August 17, 2026 at the age of 96.

Her memory is lovingly cherished by her children; Duane (Elaine), Brenda (Ken) Johnson, Verna (Ed) Chambers, Darcy (Joy), and Nicole (Chris Kilmury) Bullee; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life for Nell and her late husband, Lorne, will be held at Memories Chapel on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to come and share memories with the family.

A private family interment will take place at the Brandon Cemetery.

Born April 26, 1931, in Alameda, Saskatchewan. Audrey passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Heath Centre on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

Audrey was predeceased by her husband Mark, parents Fred & Flora Krieger, two sisters and six brothers.

We would like to extend our thanks to the staff at Hillcrest Personal Care Home for the care and support Audrey received.
