Sonhatsiwa Sexual Violence Healing Centre Sonhatsi:wa Sexual Violence Healing Centre provides therapeutic counselling to those impacted by sexual violence and/or sexual exploitation.

We utilize mainstream education and Haudenosaunee culture to address the needs of the individual. Sonhatsi:wa is a word in the Mohawk language that refers to ‘becoming your true self.’

This is our hope for all those who enter: to be who you truly are, to own your true goodness and potential which is our most natural state of being beyond the pain, hurt and anger. Sonhatsi:wa Sexual Violence Heali

ng Centre staff consists of 3 Adult Counsellors, 1 Child & Youth Counsellor, a Community Educator, an Administrative Assistant and Supervisor. Sonhatsi:wa honours individuals and families whom experienced loss through murdered and/or missing loved ones. Sonhatsi:wa has 1 Love Starts With Us Coordinator/Counsellor who strives fulfill their needs. Eligibility:
- Self referral or outside agency referred
- Priority given to Six Nations Members
- For those experiencing impacts of sexual violence (past or present)
- For those experiencing secondary effects of sexual violence

Counselling services provide holistic processes based on Ogwehoweh teachings that integrate the mind, body and spirit. The teachings, combined with mainstream counselling techniques, provide a basis for helping individuals overcome the impacts of sexual violence in a caring, non-judgmental way. The commitment to this holistic therapeutic process is based on the needs of the individual. Counsellors provide
- One on one counselling
- Educational and therapeutic groups
- Advocacy and appropriate referrals for clients to wraparound services as required
- Therapeutic retreats
