Scent is so powerfully linked to memory and can bring a sense of calm, nostalgia and warmth.

A bottle of lavender opens on a hard afternoon, and suddenly you're back in a kitchen you haven't stood in for twenty years.

Smell does this more than any other sense. The olfactory pathway sits so close to memory and emotion that a single inhale can return you somewhere you didn't know you'd lost.

The scent that takes you back is rarely the one you'd expect. Sometimes it's a soap from childhood, the inside of an old car, or a perfume someone wore once and never again. Tell us what comes up for you in the comments.
