Sometimes we don’t need someone to fix the situation we just need someone safe to sit beside while we make sense of it.

Whether it’s a sibling, a friend, a partner, or a therapist, feeling understood can make all the difference.

(For Maggie, apparently that person is Harry. 🤍)

What do teens actually want from therapy?

Trust matters more than credentials (although credentials are important) Feeling like a session is theirs to shape matters, giving them time to build a relationship with us because a fear of being judged is very real for teens.

We’re so happy to introduce Mackenzie Howard Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), the newest clinician joining St.Lawrence Psychotherapy and Wellness.

Mackenzie works with adolescents and adults who are tired of being the strong one. The ones who replay conversations, brace for disappointing people, and struggle to put themselves first without guilt creeping in.

She helps people step out of people pleasing, perfectionism, and anxiety, and into steadier ground. More trust in your own judgment. Boundaries that hold. A little more peace on an ordinary day.

Mackenzie isn’t looking for you to show up with the answers already figured out. Her approach is warm and collaborative, and together you’ll find the patterns that keep showing up and build something sturdier from there. She draws from CBT, ACT, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, mindfulness based approaches, and person centered therapy, shaped around whoever is actually in front of her.

Outside the therapy room, you’ll find her by the water, trying a new fitness class, or curled up with a good book.

Mackenzie is welcoming clients as of September 2026 but is booking free 15 minute consults now!

So many people tell me grief often shows up in the car, a memory, a place you pass by, a song that comes on the radio. Maybe it’s the quiet. Maybe it’s nowhere else to look but the road ahead.

We don’t get over the loss of someone we loved. You learn to drive with it sitting next to you.

If it’s hard to hold alone, and you need a place to talk about it, we’re here when you’re ready.

Went for a run today. Something I’ve been working on.

It was terrible. Every step felt like cement blocks. I kept tripping over myself. And the whole time, one thought kept showing up. Quit. Just stop. This is terrible.

So I did. I stopped. Then I tried again. A few minutes of running, then stopping. Over and over, until I’d made it through the route I meant to run.

It felt awful. I didn’t get what I wanted out of it.

And here’s the part I actually want to tell you.

I was mean to myself first. I overthought it, I judged it, I made it mean something about me.

Self compassion doesn’t usually show up clean. It’s not a switch you flip.

For me today it looked like being unkind, catching it, being unkind again, and then finally, finally, landing somewhere softer.

I stopped. And I said, another day.

Be kind or neutral to yourself today

Meet Lia, She has a particular interest in supporting men who are noticing anger causing problems in their lives, or who are living with substance use that’s started to feel concerning. So many men carry this privately, without much space to talk about it.

She’s equally invested in working with women at a turning point — after years spent caring for others or following a path that stopped feeling like their own.

Lia is available Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s. Link in bio to book.

Meet Mandy LeBlanc, MSW, RSW

22 years in this field taught her one thing above all: you are not your diagnosis, your trauma, or your worst day.

Mandy believes every person carries strength and a story worth understanding. She supports people navigating burnout, low self-worth, trauma, and hard life transitions helping you understand yourself more deeply and together deciding on change that you want.

We’re so glad she’s joined the St. Lawrence Psychotherapy & Wellness team.

Some changes are wanted, and we can’t always distinguish between wanted change and threat.
A new role. A new city. A baby. An empty house. Any shift big enough for us to ask ourselves who am I now, what will happen, can I do this?
Feeling unsteady can just mean that something’s genuinely shifting.
If you’re in the middle of that, we’re here, no problem is too small to bring in.

The hardest part is feeling stuck. Unable to leave, unable to stay settled either.

It can feel like you’re caught between two choices, unable to move toward either one. That’s often a nervous system trying to keep you safe in a situation that doesn’t feel safe to leave or to stay in.

You don’t need the right words for it, and you don’t need to have decided anything yet.

If you want somewhere to think it through, safely and at your own pace, we’re here. Link in bio.

You spent years wondering why things that seemed easy for everyone else took everything out of you.

The meetings you rehearsed in the shower. The social plans you dreaded and loved in the same breath. The systems you built just to function like everyone else seemed to, effortlessly.

Then a word enters your life ADHD, autistic, and something in you exhales.

Late discovery is about finally having language for a life you’ve already been living. Grief and relief can show up at the same time when you realize you understood something more fully AND you may not have had the tools you deserved growing up, Both are allowed.

If you’re somewhere in that questioning, newly diagnosed, or just tired of masking you don’t have to sort it out alone.

We have a therapist who has the understanding, the humanity and the specific skill set to help you.
