Walter Ribey

Passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on October 16th at his family farm near Goderich.

Loving husband to Penny for 26 years.

Proud dad to Melanie Gross, Danelle Taggert & Tim Junop, Michael & Karen Lennox-Moore.

Grandfather to Alix, Kyle, Julian, Bryan, Kourtney, Brett, Ty, Dakota, and Cheyanne.

Great grandfather to Jaxson, Greyson, and Sierra.

Adoring son to Faye and the late Jamieson (2010) Ribey.

Brother to Sherilyn Delves (Chris).

Missed by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Walter had an amazing attitude about his diagnosis, he was forever optimistic and willing to try anything to help in his fight. His consistent determination to find the best and most productive treatment gave Walter an extra 2 years.

He loved his farming life at the family farm and trucking over Canada and the US.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, cutting wood in the bush, helping neighbours and friends and driving anything with a motor.

He will be missed by all that knew him.

Friends and family are invited the Blyth Community Centre on Wednesday October 21st for visitation from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm and October 22nd from 12-1 with funeral service to follow at 1 pm. Please join us via livestream Riverside Funeral Home page.

Interment in Colborne Cemetery.

Mae Nellie Ebel

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mae Ebel on October 13th at Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll in her 99th year.

Loving wife to the late Louis (2005) for 56 years.

Proud mom to Kathy (Terry) Beemer, Jeff (Carolyn) Ebel, and Paul Ebel.

Grandma to Terri (Andrew), Cassandra (Andrew) and Colton.

Great grandmother to Noah, Calleigh, Thomas and Liam.

Predeceased by her infant son Brad (1958).

Mae came from a family of 13 and was the last surviving member of the Dursts.

Mae was the matriarch of her family and will be missed by many. She was born and raised in Wroxeter, meeting Louis in a diner in Stratford and then starting her life with him. They moved to Brussels with Mae becoming a member of Melville Presbyterian Church, The Rebekah Lodge and helping out at the funeral home. She was friend to all and always there to listen.

Friends and family are invited to Melville Presbyterian Church on Monday October 19th for visitation from 12-2pm with funeral service to follow.

Marie Rammeloo

Marie Rammeloo (nee Van Raay), 93, passed away peacefully in her home, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and generosity.

Born in the Netherlands, she carried her Dutch heritage throughout her life in her talent as a gardener, decorator and artist. A true force of nature, she welcomed everyone with warmth, determination, and an open heart.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she raised eight children and cherished her 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Her home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her generosity extended to all. She freely gave her time, talents, and compassion, teaching her family the importance of kindness, and hard work.

She will be remembered for the gardens she cultivated, the paintings she gave away the family she nurtured, and the many lives she touched.

She is survived by her 7 children; Raymond (Wilma) Rammeloo, Vivian Bere, Perry (Lori) Rammeloo, Danica (Jim) McNichol, Lisa (Kevin) Dutot, Jacqueline Fry, Corrie (Doug) Sholdice, 15 grandchildren & 26 great-grandchildren, 5 siblings; Jack Van Raay, Jeanine Dreisen, Burt Van Raay, Corrie LeClair, Joanne Delrue and many brother and sister in-laws all of whom will miss her dearly.

She was predeceased by her husband, Pierre; her son, Wayne; her son-in-law, Reid Bere and sister Cathy Boogaart.

Private family funeral will be at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Brussels, with visitation from 10-10:45 am with funeral service to follow at 11 am.

A family celebration of Marie's life will be held at Corrie and Doug Sholdice’s home (42831 Newry Road, Brussels) on Saturday, October 17th at 1 pm.

Christine Howitt

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christine Howitt (formerly Wayne, née King), a beloved wife, mother, Nana, great-Nana, and dear friend. Chris passed away on October 7, 2026, at the age of 84, at University Hospital in London, Ontario, following complications.

Born in England on January 4, 1942, Chris came to Canada in 1967 and went on to build a beautiful life filled with love, kindness, and compassion. She had a special gift for making those around her feel valued, welcomed, and loved. Her warmth, gentle spirit, and beautiful smile brought happiness to so many, while her wonderful sense of humour could brighten even the most difficult of days. Chris touched the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know her, and she will be remembered always for the love, laughter, and kindness she shared so freely.

Family was at the very heart of Chris’s life. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, Grant, with whom she shared 43 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, happiness, and countless cherished memories. Their love was a precious gift, and the beautiful life they shared will forever remain a treasured part of Grant’s heart.

Chris was also an amazing mother, whose love, kindness, and unwavering support meant the world to her family. She was someone they could always turn to for comfort, encouragement, and understanding. Her caring nature, unconditional love, and ability to find humour in life’s everyday moments made her truly special. She was a constant source of strength and reassurance, and the love she gave so generously will never be forgotten.

Chris will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Grant; her children, Karen Wayne, Paul Wayne (Megan), and Julie Brunn, whose beloved husband, Jay, predeceased her; and her stepchildren, Laurie-Ann Newman (Jeff) and Shane Howitt.

She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister, Jean Wikander, of New Jersey; her nieces and nephews; her beloved grandchildren, Christine Wayne, Justin Wayne, Kiaya Wayne, Quintin

Wayne, Aidan Brunn, Abbey Brunn, Rebecca Schnare, Amanda Runhart, Mathew Schnare, Alyssa Fournier, and Destiny Howitt; and her 12 great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy and love into her life.

Chris will also be dearly missed by her extended family, including Gerri Howitt, whose beloved husband, Kenneth, predeceased her; Gail and William Stuckey; Betty and John Begg; and Peter Howitt and Lucia Aramini.

Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we are deeply grateful for the years we were blessed to share with Chris and for the countless memories we will cherish forever. The love she gave, the laughter she brought, and the kindness she showed will remain with us always. Although she is no longer by our side, her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and all those whose lives she touched. Her memory will continue to bring comfort, and the love she leaves behind will never fade.

Cremation has taken place, and a private celebration of Chris’s life will be held at a later date.

Until we meet again, my darling, you will always be in my heart. The world has lost one of the finest ladies I have ever had the privilege and honour of sharing my life with. The memories we created, the laughter we enjoyed, and the love we shared will stay with me for the rest of my days. You will always be a part of me, and you will never be forgotten. Until we meet again, my darling, you will forever remain in my heart.

John Hanson Battye

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother, John Hanson Battye, on September 25, 2026.

John had just celebrated his 70th birthday with all of his siblings a few months earlier. John was the eldest of Betty Battye’s seven children. Our mom passed away in October 2019. Like his mom, John shared a deep love of the outdoors. He loved being outside, especially walking the trails and enjoying the peace and beauty of nature. He often shared pictures of his adventures on his page, giving others a glimpse of the places and moments he enjoyed. John had many interests and passions. He was an amateur astrologer, always curious about the stars, planets and the mysteries beyond us. Over the years, he even built a few telescopes to explore his fascination with the night sky. Music was another important part of John’s life. He had been playing guitar and singing since his early teens, and music remained a true passion throughout his life. Even when arthritis made it difficult and left his fingers bent out of shape, he never let that stop him from playing and enjoying the music he loved. John’s passing was untimely and unexpected. He was not ready to go. He fought right to the bitter end, holding on and battling for as long as he could. His passing leaves a tremendous hole in the lives of those who loved him.

He will be deeply missed by his six siblings, Frances, Mark, Christina, Andrew, Rachel and Catherine; his son,John Jr. and wife Brianne ;his loving partner in life Lesley and her children, Michael(Amanda), Chyrs ,Chelle(Dan), Nelle; his best friend, Tom; his 9 adoring grandchildren,and the countless friends and people whose lives he touched along the way.

Life is not always fair, and sometimes we are forced to say goodbye when we are simply not ready. We will remember John by telling his stories, looking at his pictures, remembering his music, and carrying a little bit of him with us wherever we go. John’s cremation has taken place, and rather than a traditional funeral, we would like to celebrate his life together.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at the Goderich Legion on October 23 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to come, share stories, bring pictures, remember the good times, and celebrate the life of a man who meant so much to so many.

Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Goderich Memorial Hospital or to your local Legion branch. Until we meet again, John. We will miss you, big brother.

Merle Hoegy

After a courageous battle, Merle Hoegy passed away surrounded by family on September 27th, 2026, at Seaforth Community Hospital in his 74th year.

Loving husband to Rhonda for 43 years.

Proud dad to Sean (Dana), Laurin, and Zachary (Kelsey).

Grandpa to Amelia, Everly, Finnegan, and Malcolm.

Brother to Barbara (Randy), Maynard (Lynn), Bonnie (John), and Beverley (Bill).

Brother-in-law to Janice (Paul) and Marlies (Jonathan).

Missed by very special nieces and nephews.

Merle was full of life and a genuine person. He believed that everyone was capable of fantastic things and always wanted to help you get there, whether it was through advice, service to others, or just being present.

Merle loved to dance, (including square-dancing) he would dance to anything, but his favourite dance was with Rhonda.

He loved anything outdoors, he was an avid downhill skier, he fished all the time and enjoyed his adventures at Bennett Lake. He coached and played baseball, hockey, and broomball.

Merle was a mover and a shaker, he was a respected businessman, running Brussels Agromart for 33 years with Rhonda. He was community minded, volunteering with the Brussels Lions Club for 37 years.

He loved to chat, tell stories, play cards, and make sure everyone was being the best they could be. He will be greatly missed by his friends, neighbours, community members, and work associates.

Merle and his family are grateful for all the medical staff that they have met on this journey. Merle loved his nurses and doctors at the Seaforth Hospital and appreciated their sincerity and honesty. A special thanks to Dr. Percival, Dr. Brown, and Dr. Thomas.

Donnie Dale

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donnie (Spud) at Stratford General Hospital with his family by his side.

Donnie was the lifelong partner and soulmate of Connie Govier for 36 years.

Donnie leaves behind three children Krystal (Mike), Stacy (Curtis), Jamie and stepson Steve (Mel) as well as many grandchildren.

Donnie came from a large family with six siblings; Terry (Suzie), Brenda (Rick), Al (Laurie), Brian (Anita), his twin brother Ronnie (Deb) and Shelly (Matt).

He is also survived by his dad Ron Dale.

Donnie will be extremely missed by his extended family Gary (Sandra), Herb (Tammy), Sherri (Rob), father-in-law Murray, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his daughter Tracy in infancy, his mother Lorraine Dale, mother-in-law Donna Govier and his niece Angela Konarski.

Waiting for him are his four-legged pals Tucker and Billy.

Passed away suddenly on September 17th, 2026, at his home in his 56th year.

Elisabeth Auguste Dorothea Dina Boettcher

Elisabeth Boettcher passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on Thursday, July 9, at the age of 96. She died of natural causes after spending her final three weeks in the care of the hospital's dedicated staff.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, personal support workers, and physicians at Peaceful Meadows Retirement Home in Brunner, and the staff of Stratford General Hospital's Department of Medicine, for their compassionate care and kindness.

Elisabeth was born in Hannover, Germany, and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1978. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Herbert, in 2019 after 59 years of marriage, and by her son Dirk in 1985. Elisabeth's loss is felt deeply by her loving family: her sons Chris (Gabi) and Jan (Mary Jane); grandchildren Erik (Edda), Martin (Maria), Olaf (Amanda), Peter (Johanna), Ingrid (Dylan), Sascha (Taylor) and Maika (Robert); and her six great-grandchildren. Elisabeth will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her quiet strength, and the warmth and dedication she showed to family and friends. She was a wonderful, loving, and supportive mother to her three sons, and she remained deeply interested in the world around her. An avid reader and history enthusiast, she also kept a keen eye on current events throughout her life.

Cremation has taken place.

George Alexander Adams

Passed away peacefully at Huronlea Home for the Aged on Tuesday June 23rd, 2026, just one month shy of his 98th birthday.

Beloved husband of the late Maxine Farrish (1930-2013).

Loving father of Susan Adams, John Adams, Carol Adams & Jose Candanedo and Jean & David Beard.

Proud grandfather of Adam Beard and Michelle Ross.

Dear brother to Helen (Adams) Edmonds and brother-in-law to Helen (Irwin) Farrish.

George will be remembered by his surviving first cousins in the Adams and Doig families, the remaining Whyte and Love first-cousins-in-law families and many nieces and nephews in the Farrish families, and especially remembered by his nephew Steve and Donna Adams and his family.

Predeceased by his parents Russell Adams & Merle Doig, and siblings Bruce (1930), Lois (1936) and Rae (1997), in-laws in the Farrish family including Elmer & Hilda, Jasper & Cherie, Bower, Millie & Don Leader and Johnstone Farrish.

George was born, raised and farmed in Howick Township until he was 70 years old. George was a veteran serving with the WWII as part of the Reserve Class C and the 99th Field Battery from 1944 to 1945 when the war ended. He celebrated his 16th birthday at the Petawawa Base.

George was an avid traveler, since the 1970’s starting with exploring his Scottish roots, then continuing with Huron County Cattlemen's Association organized trips and finally travelling with friends to every continent including the Antarctic. George and Maxine made many friends while traveling and especially loved their trips to New Zealand and England. Several times they toured their international friends across Canada from Vancouver Island to the Maritimes. George also loved to fish with his buddies across Northern Ontario, the Northwest Territories and took many salmon fishing trips to the Queen Charlotte Islands.

Once he and Maxine retired from farming and moved into Brussels in 1997, George took up woodworking which evolved into building furniture and tables, Adirondack chairs, BBQ scrapers and over 2,500 birdhouses. George was delighted to learn that following a series of articles about his birdhouses in the "More Our Canada" magazine and on the CBC, the story was picked up by the British newspaper The Times; "Not bad for an old farmer from Ontario" he would say. Birdhouse sales went to the Masonic Lodge Prostate Cancer Research Fund raising nearly $25,000. George was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and the Brussels Legion for 25+ years. He loved to cook for the Brussels Legion’s Famous Fish Frys.

Friends and family are invited for a visitation on Saturday, June 27th from 3-5 pm at Riverside Funeral Home at 401 Albert Street, Brussels ON.

Interment in Wroxeter Cemetery.
