Friday we had an emergency appointment after a dog patient of ours ate something he shouldn't have. We took x-rays to see if we could identify the culprit, and we saw the telltale sign in his stomach. Do you see it? He ate a corn cob! Unfortunately, corn cobs don't break down at all and are one of the most common foreign body removal surgeries we perform on dogs, especially in the summer! Fortunately the owner brought this dog in right away so we could remove the many pieces of corn cob from his stomach before they tried to move through his intestines and get stuck! He recovered well and will be avoiding corn from now on! 🌽

Yesterday we were lucky enough to meet Origami, the adorable Scottish Fold kitten being cared for by our friends at SOAR. Poor Origami was showing urinary discomfort and bloody urine. We were able to take x-rays and rule out a bladder stone, but there was a little debris visible at the tip of his p***s. We were able to help him pass a mucus plug so that he could urinate comfortably again. We performed a urinalysis which found evidence of a bladder infection, so we sent him home with antibiotics, special food and some pain medication. He is back at SOAR being spoiled and ready to continue his rehabilitation! We love when we can help our colleagues and keep animals healthy and happy together!

Who's a good girl? Ducky is! Dr. Stewart's puppy recently underwent a spay procedure, and we thought it was a great chance to show you what goes on during a typical surgery day. Ducky's home now, enjoying even more post-op cuddles!
