If your “nervous system regulation” only looks like calming down… you’re missing the point. 🥲
Everyone is talking about “regulating your nervous system”…
but most people don’t actually know what that means.
It’s not about being calm all the time.
It’s not about forcing yourself to relax.
And it’s definitely not about living in one state.
Your autonomic (automatic) nervous system has two main branches:
→ Sympathetic = mobilization, action, protection
→ Parasympathetic = rest, repair, restoration
You need BOTH. 🤍
The goal isn’t to avoid stress…
it’s to be able to move through it.
✨Regulation = adaptability✨
Because when you get stuck, that’s where problems start:
Stuck in sympathetic → always “on,” wired, anxious, reactive, trouble sleeping, can’t slow down
Stuck in parasympathetic → low energy, shutdown, unmotivated, disconnected, hard to initiate
Neither state is the problem.
Being STUCK or HIGHLY DOMINANT in one is.
True nervous system health is your ability to shift between them based on what life is asking of you.
And here’s the part that gets missed—
You can’t force adaptability
if your system doesn’t have the capacity for it.
This is where the work comes in.
Not to “fix” you— but to create space in your system
so your body can actually access the state it needs.
This is the role of chiropractic.
This is the role of energy work.
