When working with couples I work different approaches including Gottman therapy & EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy).
Dr. Gottman's modalities are helpful for specific coping tools - things that help when couples get "stuck".
“Trust is built in very small moments, which I call 'sliding door' moments. In any interaction, there is a possibility of connecting with your partner or turning away from your partner. One such moment is not important, but if you're always choosing to turn away, then trust erodes in a relationship- very gradually, very slowly.”
― John Gottman

In therapy, you have the space, safety and time to piece together various aspects of your experience.

When you hear your own story and narrative out loud, it is a form of emotional processing that leads to greater clarity.

This “connecting the dots” helps you come to a greater understanding of experiences and emotions that are impacting you in the present.

Clarity, understanding and awareness lead to change

Mid-Week Check In 👉⬇️

We need to re-write the script that says self-care is indulgent.
It's not!

This idea has come up a lot when I facilitate self-care for chronic health issues groups, especially for women.

If you have a chronic health issue are experiencing burnout or have a mental health diagnosis, its even more important to tune into your own needs since you may have specific (physical or mental health) needs that others around you may not.

Self-care isn't indulgent - making yourself a priority is essential to take care of both physical and mental health.
Simple ways to make yourself a priority?

➡️Do nothing for 10 mins
➡️Meditate
➡️Take your medication
➡️Call a friend
➡️Go for a walk
➡️Stretch
➡️Take that water, meal or tea/coffee break
➡️Stand up and find some movement
➡️Breathe
➡️Ask for help from a loved one
➡️Book a health care or mental health appointment ⬇️

Mid Week Thought: Find some time to make yourself a priority.

OMG 😆 Did you know one of my specialities includes working with people that have chronic health conditions?

If you have a chronic health issue or general stress OMG is a great way to connect back with yourself when feeling an increase in pain, or are feeling overwhelmed or flooded with emotions.

⬇️

⬇️
O 🔺orient yourself, to space and the present moment, where are you what’s around you? What do you see or hear?

M🔺movement, bring some movement in, can you wiggle your fingers or toes? Tap your fingers or rub your hands together? Sway a little, maybe getting up to move around and stretch!

G 🔺ground, connect to your feet to the ground. You can do this with shoes, socks, or barefoot.
