Oral Myofunctional exercises are targeted activities that help strengthen and coordinate the muscles of the lips, tongue, cheeks, and jaw.They can support proper tongue posture, nasal breathing, swallowing patterns, chewing, and speech production.
They are often used as part of pro facial Myofunctional therapy and should be individualized by a trained professional based on the person’s specific needs.
First of all, you need an assessment by registered SLP.

We are working on optimizing nasal airflow, together with proper tongue positioning along the alveolar ridge and establishing an efficient lip seal. We are also refining the production of the /s/ and /z/ phonemes, which require precise tongue positioning and controlled airflow.

During the activity, we used a small amount of Nutella to encourage targeted tongue movements.
The activity was simple and fun: we placed the food in specific areas and encouraged the child to notice where the “mess” was and use their tongue to reach and clean it.

In this way, we worked on tongue mobility, coordination, and movement dissociation, turning a therapeutic exercise into a motivating and engaging game.
