Deep heat + chemo-radiation: better results for lower re**al cancer?

Avoiding a permanent stoma is a big deal for re**al cancer patients. This new study added deep loco-regional hyperthermia (heating the tumor) to modern total neoadjuvant therapy (chemo-radiation) for low-lying advanced re**al cancer. Result: 49% kept their sphincter / avoided a permanent stoma — including 18% who skipped surgery completely with watch-and-wait. That’s on the higher side compared with many historical series without the heat therapy, where permanent stoma rates for the lowest tumors were often higher. Complete response hit 39%. Promising for quality of life… still needs bigger trials

Can transplant patients eat normal food?

New analysis from the AMATERASU trial. Scientists gave people 2000 IU of vitamin D every day after digestive tract cancer surgery. Vitamin D only worked in those with middle-to-upper vitamin A blood levels. Their chance of staying cancer-free for 5 years jumped from 55% to 81%. But in people with low vitamin A? Almost zero benefit. And overall survival stayed the same either way.

Younger than 60 with intermediate-risk prostate cancer… may more safely choose active surveillance (AS) versus surgery or radiation. A 2026 study looked at almost 4,000 men under 60 with favorable intermediate-risk prostate cancer (that includes many Grade Group 2 / Gleason 3+4 cases). Early overall survival and non-cancer deaths were basically the same. It’s early data from a big registry — longer follow-up still needed but it adds reassurance for carefully selected younger men who choose active surveillance.

New Chinese study of 246 women found plasma Vitamin C was 81% lower in breast cancer patients compared to those with benign tumors. The more advanced the cancer… the lower the Vitamin C…especially in triple-negative and HER2-positive cases. Patients on anthracycline-based chemotherapy regimens and dual-targeted therapy had the lowest levels. And the worse the side effects, the lower Vitamin C fell.

A new study of almost 12,000 patients found that the biggest red flag is for people who can have surgery first, then chemo afterward — the classic stage 3 situation - and starting treatment within 0–3 days = lowest risk.
Wait 4–46 days → 27% higher chance the cancer spreads within 3 years.
Wait 47+ days → 55% higher risk. For patients who need chemo or radiation before surgery, the window is bigger — risk only jumped after about 68 days. We do not know further details such as the molecular subtypes, left vs right-sided, etc.

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is common with pelvic radiation in men. While in mice, the addition of Quercetin with radiation helped with fibrosis, apoptosis, preserving endothelial and neurovascular integrity and activating the Nrf2/HO-1 signalling pathway in both pe**le tissue and endothelial cells. These findings provide experimental evidence supporting quercetin as a potential adjunct therapeutic agent for preventing or treating Ri-ED in patients undergoing pelvic radiotherapy.
