If you’re a coach who wants to help keep your athletes on the field and off your injury list this is for you!

We see many soccer, field hockey, basketball, and football players come to the clinic with knee injuries including the dreaded ACL injury. This can be a major injury resulting in over a year out of play and the risk of the athlete not coming back full strength.

We’ve invited Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr Jordan Leith and Sports Physio, Marc Rizzardo to come together to bring you the latest information on ACL injuries. They’ll be talking about what can be done to help prevent these injuries and the ideal pathway from acute injury to return to play.

Join us November 18th from 7-8:3PM for a drink and chance to learn from two sports medicine leaders

🫐 Vitamin C and P*e! 🫐

Vitamin C found in foods can help decrease bladder urgency. Urgency is when you all of a sudden need to p*e and feel like you need to run to the bathroom or not make it there in time. Sometimes things like putting your key in the door, or trying on clothing at a store, or hearing water running can trigger you to have this feeling.

Blueberries are a great source of vitamin C so stock up while they’re in season! It’s believed that vitamin C from natural food sources is better absorbed for this specific purpose than high dose supplements.

Do you know where you store your emotions, stress, worries or anxiety?

Everyone is different but if you clench your jaw you often also clench your pelvic floor muscles (usually subconsciously). 🦷😬

So if you clench your jaw, have TMJ pain or teeth grind you’re likely gripping through your pelvic floor muscles too … this can make pelvic floor symptoms worse… things like
• feeling of need to p*e urgently (running to the bathroom)
• or leaking
• pain with tampons/ period cups or in*******se

So sometimes learning to relax your jaw can help your pelvic floor and learning to relax your pelvic floor might help with your jaw pain! Cool right?! 😎

BIRTH PREP TIP: 🤰this is for all the pregnant people out there getting ready to have a baby!

Knee/ hip position can change pelvic posture to open the top of the pelvis in early labour to encourage baby down (think of a funnel) and also open the pelvic outlet for later stages when you are pushing. 🔑 Early in labour think knees apart, later stages of labour think knees together! This can be done in a variety of positions … on all 4’s, laying on your side, on your back and even squatting.

Our team of pelvic floor physios can help optimize positions for labour and delivery that work with your body not against it 💕 offering mobile visits on the north shore and virtual visits to anyone!

Who knows what Roxanne is checking on her patient?

⬇️⬇️ Answer Below ⬇️ ⬇️

Checking for diastasis is something we can do for you postpartum. We look at distance in the linear alba (side to side distance between abdominal muscles), depth, and control. Depending on where you are in your postpartum recovery we can offer different treatment techniques and exercises but generally we want to load the tissues to generate controlled force across midline… so this means breathing techniques, core exercises including leg lifts, oblique exercises, rotations and more. We will work with you to make sure exercises match your goals … pushing kids on the swing set, running a race, playing soccer or just feeling comfortable and confident day to day

Eye spy two of the most common in-home pelvic physio appointment crashers … your doggies! 🐶

Getting to see you for in-home prenatal/ postpartum visits means we usually get to know the whole family … pets included! It also really helps us figure out how to give you exercises or homework suited to your life, home and neighbourhood

Would you like your pets to be around during your appointment to provide comfort?

🤰 Did you know that pelvic floor physiotherapy can help ease labor and reduce postpartum recovery time?

Our birth prep sessions are with a pelvic floor physiotherapist who comes to your own house to teach techniques to strengthen and often more importantly relax your pelvic floor, manage pain, and prevent tears during delivery. Prepare your body for a smoother, positive birth experience with expert guidance.
