🚨 IMPLANT COMPLICATION: THE MISSING PIECE OF THE PUZZLE — SOFT TISSUE. 🦷✨
An implant placed at another practice several years ago presented with a significant soft-tissue deficiency, including absence of keratinized tissue and attached gingiva, peri-implant bone loss, exposed implant threads, and soft-tissue mobility.
The problem wasn’t simply what was happening to the implant — it was also the quality and stability of the tissue surrounding it.
🔬 Our solution? A free gingival graft (FGG) harvested from the patient’s palate.
By augmenting the peri-implant soft tissue, our goal was to establish a wider zone of firm, keratinized, attached gingiva and improve tissue thickness and stability around the implant.
✨ Why does this matter?
✅ Creates a more stable, immobile soft-tissue seal around the implant
✅ Improves resistance to mechanical trauma during daily oral hygiene
✅ Can make plaque control more comfortable and predictable
✅ Increases the amount of keratinized, attached tissue around the implant
✅ Helps establish a healthier soft-tissue environment for long-term maintenance
⚠️ The key takeaway: Successful implant dentistry is not just about placing an implant or restoring it with a beautiful crown. The surrounding soft tissue matters, too.
When soft-tissue deficiencies develop, timely assessment and appropriate soft-tissue augmentation may help improve the conditions for long-term peri-implant health.
Beautiful implant dentistry starts with a strong biological foundation. 🦷💎
