Transcending Rose

When I planted this Bluebeard several years ago, it was to replace a plant that died after an unusually cold winter. And I'm enchanted by its purplish blue blooms with little beards on the base petal. The bees and other pollinators love it and the deer leave it alone. Every shrub, like this one, that gets cut way back in late summer and then is full of new growth and blooms a few months later feels like a miracle to me.

Sometimes it is people who feed my soul, but flowers always do that job beautifully. I was enchanted by these Asiatic Lilies at the botanical garden and when I found out the name of this variety is Tribal Dance, I was even more thrilled. Who wouldn't want to dance with these tri-colored beauties?! As the blooms age, the yellows turn more lemony yellow and the tips of the blooms become a soft peachy-pink. A lovely contrast with the raspberry red speckles in the center.

Just like it’s great to be mindful of what your limits are, it’s also great to be ready when the timing is right to make that change. ✌️
