When I chose the name Protea Counselling, it wasn't simply because the protea is a beautiful flower. It was because of what the flower represents.
The protea is often associated with strength, courage and resilience—qualities that reflect so much of what happens in counselling.
Strength doesn't mean never struggling. Courage doesn't mean never being afraid. And resilience doesn't mean that difficult experiences leave us unchanged. Sometimes these qualities look much quieter: asking for help, setting a boundary, facing something painful, trying again, or simply continuing when life feels overwhelming.
Like a flower slowly unfolding, growth often happens gradually. It can take time, the right conditions, and support.
That is what the name Protea Counselling represents to me: the capacity people have to heal, adapt and grow—even after difficult experiences.
Strength. Courage. Resilience.
There is help.
