With the days being longer and the weather being nicer, there is usually an influx of invitations and events that start to happen. Some people love this time of year and others find it overwhelming.

For those who find it difficult to say no, the overwhelmed can be very noticeable and build up quickly. Here are some script suggestions of ways to say no without feeling like you’re being mean in doing so.

As a sidenote, saying no, in and of itself, is not a mean thing to do. Meanness comes from our intentions, our tone, and how we communicate. If it is your intention that you just do not want or cannot do the thing, that is not mean, that is self-respect.

These are ways to politely decline or shift the invitation while still being true to your capacity.

As we prepare for summer, we want to help people feel emotionally prepared for the season ahead.

As nice as it would be for summer to wash away all of the challenges and stress of the year before, this is not realistic. We continue to be feeling, stressed out human beings, even when the sun is shining at its peak and, therefore, need to remember to keep taking care of ourselves and to be realistic about our expectations.

This will be your theme for the month as we want you to enjoy the summer while remembering to embrace the realism of your humanity. šŸ˜Ž

Calling all practice owners and aspiring practice owners- this one’s for you!

If you are in solo, group or growing practice as a therapist of any kind (psychologist, social worker, counsellor, psychotherapist, marriage and family therapist, or other registered professional), we would love to support your growth and vision!

This upcoming workshop will clarify some of the structure you can implement to create a solid growth strategy for your practice.

This webinar will cover the essentials, when to DIY vs outsource, plus you get some great additional marketing tools to use afterwards from it.

Interested? Registration is still live on Eventbrite. Registered to secure your spot as there is limited availability!

We’d love to see you on Friday June 19th for a dynamic and interesting seminar.

Our social media account has been active for six years and, with that, our main mission has been to offer general guidance and tips to help improve people’s quality of life.

The weird thing about this is that in therapy the strategies, suggestions and conversation are so context dependent that we we’ve and dance according to the individual or couple who are in front of us.

Keep this in mind as you engage with self-help work. Everything you’re reading is generalized and isn’t personalized to your context. This matters. It’s important that you consider the context in which you are in as you explore the different recommendations and tools that are out there. What might make sense for one person in one context might not make as much sense for you right now. And that’s OK.

It doesn’t mean that the tools are bad or wrong, it just means that they may not apply as well to your life at this moment in time.

This month we want to keep supporting you in navigating different feelings, especially the feeling of anxiety.

Anxiety is different from legitimate fear as it often connects to things that are not happening and are very unlikely to happen. Despite the threats not being real, the feelings and physiological experience are.

Here’s a gentle three step process to support yourself in checking in with where you’re at and what you can do to support yourself.

Anxiety is such an uncomfortable experience that we just want to be through and have it be done. Unfortunately, anxiety is an emotional experience that may not immediately go away, but we can support the processing of it with gentle action.

Here Paige guides you through a 3 step process for resetting ourselves when anxiety is active.

Remember that we need to move through our emotional experience, not avoid it or try to life hack our way out of it.

In the month of May we’ve been exploring the topics of spring resets, anxiety, OCD, and will be talking about why people may not feel as good in spring as they may have hoped.

Today we leave you with some gentle invitations to reflect on.

Our choices matter and our choices shape our mental health. Even if life feels like a šŸ’© storm with a lot coming at you, there are still subtle choices you can make that make a difference.

Which will you choose today?

We had to jump on this trend. I had to admit, as with a lot of trends, that I didn’t understand it at first, but as I saw more and more of these videos, I thought it was a cute way to showcase some of the more challenging moments that therapists encounter in their work.

If you are not a therapist, some of the things therapist find the most challenging are:

Insurance companies
Documentation & notes
Time management
Technology problems

As you can see, a lot of the challenges of being a therapist have nothing to do with the people that we see and the therapy work that we do. While that can definitely be challenging, a lot of our biggest frustrations come in the systemic barriers that get in the way of showing up for people as we would like to.

Therapists-anything you would add to our top horrors list??
