June is Migraine Awareness Month, and if you suffer from migraines, you know that the pain rarely stays in just one spot. It almost always comes with intense, radiating tension wrapping up from your neck, shoulders, and the base of your skull.
When a migraine is building, your suboccipital muscles (the tiny muscles right at the base of your hairline) tend to seize up. While stretching won’t cure a complex neurological event, relieving the mechanical tension in your upper neck can significantly reduce the severity of your symptoms and lower the physical strain on your nervous system.
In our latest Reel, Bryce walks you through two clinical resets you can do right from your chair:
The Suboccipital Reset (Chin Tucks)
This creates a deep, targeted elongation of the tight suboccipital muscles at the base of your skull, releasing pressure where major nerves and blood vessels pass through to your head.
The Trapezius Decompression
This opens up space between your ear and your shoulder, dropping tension out of the upper trapezius and levator scapulae muscles that often lock up during a head pain episode.
At Running Shoe Restorative Healthcare and the Calgary Concussion Centre, we don’t just look at individual symptoms. Our multidisciplinary team combines manual neck therapies, active kinesiology progressions, lifestyle trigger mapping, and advanced, drug-free technology like CEFALY neurostimulation to desensitize your nervous system and help prevent future attacks before they take over your day.
