solo backpacking trip ~ after flight delays + uncertainty, i was confident i should go home. arriving in the middle of the night, with poor spanish, no idea where i was or where i was going and no return flight. taking an hour long taxi to the town where my hostel was with no service + no way of communication. i was welcomed by very lovely women - nonetheless i spent my first morning looking at the quickest way home. quickly i was greeted by another katie, who was also living on vancouver island and ALSO originally from calgary. naturally i was not going anywhere & took this as a sign.
i spent the next few weeks exploring towns, inviting in girls who reminded me of me on my first night in, we swam in oceans, met friends from all over the world, ate questionable food, danced, said the wrong things in spanish, and got far too much sun. finished off by exploring some of california and continuing the journey. after trains, buses, ubers, planes, and lots of walking, eventually came home and basked in life’s simple pleasures.
today was my last day living in nanaimo and my next adventure is very exciting. i cant wait to share!
wild pine has really been put on a back burner while im working away, but one day we’ll be in full swing of crafting + markets.
to my friends + fam who support me on these travels & love me even when i come home just to sleep in their spare rooms & give a quick hug goodbye
always asking myself if it can get any better than this & it does. do it alone, do it afraid. follow your intuition and bask in all the magic of the universe🥹grateful for the hardships, the sunshine, my brothers, my soul sisters, my nieces, my work, and doors that open when you aren’t worried about whats behind them. grateful for everything little thing, none of it is insignificant. cheers to not having a plan, and rarely knowing where you are😅
