Grief can begin before a loss.

When someone you love is living with a serious or life-limiting illness, you may find yourself mourning them while they're still beside you. This is known as anticipatory grief.

It can bring sadness, anxiety, anger, guilt, or a sense of rehearsing the loss in your mind. Feeling grief before a loss does not mean you've given up hope. Often, it reflects how deeply the person, the relationship, or the future you imagined matters to you.

And grieving early does not mean you'll grieve less later. The grief you're carrying now deserves care in its own right.

Sometimes rest and small changes help. Sometimes you need more support.

If exhaustion, low mood, or hopelessness has lasted for weeks, you’re withdrawing from nearly everyone, you’re leaning on alcohol or other substances to get through, or you can no longer picture things improving, it may be time to reach out.

Talking with your doctor or a therapist is a practical, caring next step, not a last resort.

Caring for yourself isn’t taking something away from the person you love. It’s part of what makes it possible to keep showing up for them.

Naming what you’re carrying, accepting practical help, protecting the basics, and reaching out for connection are all places to start.

When time is short, small and consistent can matter more than big and occasional.

Caregiver burnout and anticipatory grief often overlap.

You might feel resentment followed quickly by guilt. You may never fully rest because part of your mind remains “on call.” Sleep may no longer touch the exhaustion, or you may notice irritability, a shorter fuse, or persistent worry about the future.

These can be signals that the load has outgrown the support you currently have around you.

Grief doesn’t only arrive after a death.

When someone you love is seriously ill, aging, or changing, you may find yourself grieving the relationship you used to have, their independence, milestones you assumed you’d reach together, or the future you had pictured.

This is known as anticipatory grief.

Our latest blog explores this often unspoken part of caregiving and the burnout that can accompany it.

Caring for someone you love can leave you exhausted and quietly grieving at the same time.

Your child may be trying harder than most people realize.

ADHD doesn’t always look like hyperactivity. It can look like forgotten assignments, homework battles, difficulty getting started, emotional exhaustion after school, or a child who wants to do well but still struggles.

At Choose You Centre, child and teen ADHD assessments are trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming. We look beyond a checklist to understand how attention, emotions, learning, sensory experience, and environment fit together for your child.

Assessments are available for ages 6 to 17 and include a comprehensive report with recommendations for your child’s school.

No referral is required. If you’re wondering whether an ADHD assessment is the right next step, start with a free 15-minute consultation.

Maybe the school sees it. Maybe they don’t. But you’ve been paying attention.

For many parents, questions about autism come after months or even years of noticing patterns, from masking and sensory overwhelm to anxiety, exhaustion after school, or differences that don’t quite fit previous explanations.

At Choose You Centre, child autism assessments are neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed. We take the time to understand how your child experiences communication, connection, sensory input, and the world around them.

Assessments are available for children and teens ages 5 to 17 and include a comprehensive report with recommendations for school, FSCD, and home.

No referral is required. If you’re wondering whether an autism assessment is the right next step, start with a free 15-minute consultation.
