Join us on Friday, September 18, 2026, in Calgary for a community gathering hosted by Dr. Kristin Black and the University of Calgary.

The gathering will bring together Indigenous community members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community leaders, healthcare providers, researchers, and individuals with lived experience to explore perspectives on ovarian cancer, genetic testing, and prevention through risk-reducing surgery. Through presentations, discussion, and a Sharing Circle, we hope to better understand community priorities and help inform future research in partnership with Indigenous communities.

Honoraria will be provided to participants, and limited travel and accommodation support is available.

Call to Participate: Indigenous Community Wildfire Response in Alberta‼️

IPHCPR is inviting people involved in Indigenous community wildfire preparedness, response, coordination, and recovery in Alberta to share their experiences. This may include community leaders, emergency management leads, fire personnel, health directors, lands staff, and staff from tribal councils or Indigenous-serving agencies.

Participation involves an approximately 60-minute conversation, in person or virtual, about wildfire planning, decision-making, collaboration with provincial and other agencies, and what has worked well or been challenging. Participants will be invited to review findings before public sharing.

Participants will receive an honorarium in recognition of their time and expertise.

This study has been approved by the University of Calgary Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board: REB20-0031.

We’d like to take some time to reintroduce ourselves!

The Indigenous Primary Health Care and Policy Research (IPHCPR) Network is dedicated to advancing Indigenous primary health care and policy research in Alberta. The IPHCPR Network is currently funded as the Alberta Centre for the CIHR NEIHR program (AB-NEIHR).

IPHCPR Network is positioned as a key partner among Indigenous primary health care and policy systems actors, researchers, trainees and Indigenous communities within Alberta, and across Canada. Building on partnerships, capacities, strategic initiatives and emerging expertise, the IPHCPR Networks supports Indigenous primary health care and policy research as a vehicle for achieving the network’s vision, mission and aim.

The network is led by Dr. Lindsay Crowshoe (Blackfoot, member of the Piikani First Nation) at the University of Calgary.

“This network is about engaging and connecting a diverse set of Indigenous primary healthcare, community and research partners,” says Dr. Crowshoe. “Our aim is to support building a primary health care system that is responsive to the needs of Indigenous community through generating, gathering and sharing critical transdisciplinary knowledge.”

What is a NEIHR Centre?
•In 2018 The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) launched the Network Environments for Indigenous Health Research (NEIHR) Program.
• The NEIHR Program has set the foundation towards establishing a national network of Centres focused on strengthening Indigenous research capacity, training and mentoring, and supporting Indigenous community-based health research that reflects the priorities and values of Indigenous people.
• The purpose of the NEIHR is to establish a solid foundation for Indigenous health research driven by and grounded in First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities in Canada.
• The NEIHR program is supported financially by all 13 CIHR Institutes.
