You can feel emotions deeply and still struggle to identify them.

Alexithymia is often described as a difficulty identifying, understanding, and putting emotions into words. For many people the emotions are there, but making sense of them can take time and feel confusing or out of reach.

Sometimes modern life can feel like being pulled in a hundred directions at once. So many expectations, responsibilities, reminders, pressures, and invisible mental checklists competing for space in our minds every day.

When life feels overwhelming, many of us respond by pushing ourselves even harder or becoming more critical of ourselves for struggling.

If this resonates with you, Calm Harbour Counselling offers therapy for stress, burnout, anxiety, overwhelm, and self-compassion.

Getting an ADHD diagnosis later in life can feel like a relief… and also bring up a lot of grief.

There’s relief in finally having answers, in understanding yourself in a new way. It can also be overwhelming and painful, flooding you with memories or activating shame. There can also be sadness for all the years you were trying so hard without knowing why it felt so difficult. If you’re feeling it all, that makes sense.

Understanding your ADHD isn’t about making excuses, although at times it can feel that way. Moving forward can mean learning what you need and starting to support yourself differently. You don’t have to sort through all of this on your own. Reach out and we'll unpack this together.

Check out our blog for a deeper dive (link in bio), and send this to someone you think might need to hear it.

Healing can feel confusing and messy.

You might think you’re doing better, and then something comes back up and catches you off guard. It can feel frustrating, or even discouraging, but that doesn’t mean anything’s gone wrong.

It could be that you're noticing things you didn’t have space for before, or are right in the middle of doing something different. You’re a bit more aware, a bit more open to what’s there.

It’s a different kind of process than most people expect.

And you don’t have to sort through it on your own.
