Surgery for Pelvic Organ Prolapse… 🥑
The success rate of this surgery is high - about 94% when defining it as the absence of the prolapse beyond the h***n (MD Barber 2009).
Did you know that the recurrence rate for this type of surgery is also quite high? Literature shows us that it’s around 25% (M Kayondo 2022).
This is because while the surgery repairs the stretched tissues, it doesn’t repair the individual risk factors that caused your prolapse in the first place.
These statistics are to show you that what you do after the surgery is just as important as the surgery itself!
Pelvic floor physio addresses individual factors that may be contributing to your risk of recurrence! Some examples include constipation, breath holding, inappropriate core or high impact exercises. Our goal is to identify these risk factors to prevent repeat prolapse!
We also address any additional symptoms that you may be experiencing after the surgery (back pain, pain with in*******se, bowel/bladder concerns).
Bottom line: See a pelvic floor physio after your pelvic floor surgery! It just makes sense 🤔
