Did you know that in Canada between 10-20% of the population has hypermobility issues?
Women are 3x more likely to be affected. A majority of people are asymptomatic, however somewhere between 1 in 600 to 1 in 900 are affected with HSD (Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders). Many of these can result in chronic pain, joint instability, among other issues that can affect everyday life. *The Hypermobility Association Website
A wide variety of conditions are covered under the umbrella of HSD including but not exclusive to Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes, TMJD, POTS, joint instability and chronic pain.

Is massage an appropriate treatment?
Massage can be an integral part of a treatment plan to maintain and improve function and reduce the appearance of pain. Recent years have shown an increase in research into HSD, but the more that is discovered the more there is to investigate. It is important to have a Massage Therapist that is knowledgeable with up to date research and treatment protocols in order to provide the safest and most effective treatment for anything under the HSD umbrella.

Hello my Friends,

We are a month into 2026. The last year for many has felt heavy and stressful. Even if there was nothing personally going on for you, the state of the world permeates stress into everyday life. Mental, physical and emotional stress can cause detrimental things to our bodies.

According to the Mayo Clinic chronic stress can cause headaches, general muscle tension and pain, sleep problems, fatigue, stomach upset and digestive issues. Chronic stress also can negatively affect mental health, long term health issues and lean more into unhealthy coping behaviours.

Massage has been proven to help manage stress and it’s effects on the body. Regular massage can help lower blood pressure, improve sleep, decrease the tension in the muscles. It helps to connect the mind and body, bringing a sense of grounding.

The daylight is slowly getting longer but February is known as a month for having the ‘blues’. It is the perfect time to get some infrared therapy and slip into the sauna until the sun returns.

We can not take care of others if we are not caring for ourselves first.

I look forward to seeing you soon.
