St. Andrew’s Protestant Cemetery and St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery by Alberta Family Histories Society
Booklet - 971.23 Coch St. An
Description
“In 1891, Ernest Balch Cochrane of the British American Land Company Limited was the owner of the land where the cemeteries are now situated. In 1897 this Company was renamed the Cochrane Ranch Company. In 1905, Peter Collins of Cochrane became the owner of Section 10 and set aside the most south-eastern portion of the SE 1/4 of the section for cemeteries. Subsequent owners of this section of land have recognized this gift from Peter Collins of 3 and 2.43 acres for use as cemeteries. In 1927, Section 10 passed into the hands of the Prince Investment Co. And in 1949 it became the property of Gilbert Ranches Ltd.
In 1976, St. Mary's Cemetery, consisting of 1.01 acres, officially became the property of the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary.”
Originally recorded in 1978 by AFHS and updated again in 1993. Both St. Mary’s and St. Andrew’s are no longer taking new burials. The booklet (971.23 Coch St. An) contains two separate listings and also includes data from the War Memorial, a cairn located 11km west of Cochrane and the Mitford Cemetery.
