Did you know that in 2014, approximately 1 in every 68 children were identified as having autism spectrum disorder (ASD)? In fact, this prevalence is more common in boys than girls, with 1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls affected.

More current figures estimate prevalence to be closer to 1 in 45 children ages 3 through 17. (This equates to 2% of children in the U.S. who are living with autism!)

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) symptoms vary widely in their severity. Symptoms are generally characterized by social-interaction difficulties, communication challenges, and a tendency to engage in repetitive behaviors.

Someone on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum may experience mild challenges, while on the other end symptoms may be more severe and interfere with everyday life.

There are also a host of other associated medical conditions, such as:

- Genetic disorders impacting brain development

- Gastrointestinal (GI) Disorders

- Seizure Disorders

- Sleep Dysfunction

- Sensory Processing Problems

Autism does not discriminate, families and individuals of all cultures, ethnicities, and socioeconomic status are affected. Specific causes are currently unknown, however, it is likely to actually be a number of different developmental brain disorders that produce similar presentations. (Most cases of autism are thought to result from a combination of genetic predisposition and triggering environmental events which influence early stages of brain development.)

No matter what the statistics say, individuals with an autism diagnosis and their families deserve the basic right to maximize the quality of life which is why we invite you (and the people you care about most) to sign up for our next event…
