tiny journal: The concept of cognitive surrender is explored in a recent paper from the Wharton School of Business: Steven Shaw and Gideon Nave’s “Thinking - Fast, Slow, and Artificial: How AI is Reshaping Human Reasoning and the Rise of Cognitive Surrender.” Cognitive surrender is adopting what AI produced as one's own, with the same confidence AI demonstrates, even when the outcome is incorrect. A motivation for cognitive surrender is intolerance for uncertainty. Write about using AI. Or thinking.

tiny journal: I read that the average Canadian purchases 70 items of clothing per year (this is probably extrapolated from U.S. data). I thought that number sounded crazy, but if you include hats, socks, underwear, as well as jeans and t-shirts and a belt and a jacket and... I probably still don't reach 70 but closer than my initial guess. Write about purchasing/wearing clothes. What's your oldest garment? How many wears per item?

tiny journal: John Kenney, I See You've Called in Dead: “Are we ever fully honest with someone else? I don’t mean to suggest outright lies, but do we really express those quieter, deeper feelings? Those amorphous, hazy things, core things that even we struggle to admit to ourselves. Do we share everything?”

Little Rescues
L.E. Bowman

coffee / sunlight / a smile/ a laugh
a kiss on the forehead / a call from a friend
one of those lingering hugs that mothers give
the first hint of fall / the first touch of spring
any sign that change is coming
water / nature / a long, steaming bath
soft, gentle lips / open, familiar hands
a home cooked meal
a deep, cleansing breath
flowers / forgiveness / movement
rest
music – especially if it inspires you to dance

How is it to read this? What else?

tiny journal: Auroraskygazer: “I have come up with a better metaphor than ‘you can’t pour from an empty cup’ for burnout. You can’t boil an empty kettle. Pouring from an empty cup just gets you nowhere. Trying to boil an empty kettle can ruin the kettle, the stove, and burn down your house if you keep trying it.” And some of the melted aluminum can roll off the burner into your box of LPs and damage the Woodstock soundtrack… but that’s not the point. The point is burnout. When have you felt burnout? What was the effect?

tiny journal: Aaron Corwin: “You’re not doom scrolling, you’re hopequesting. You need those tiny pieces of joy from seeing friends and strangers share their art, their good news, their wacky unique selves. We need light to live. And we find it in each other.” There are lots of negatives about social media (positive correlation between depression and time spent on Instagram, for example). What are some of the positives, for you, of scrolling?
