Chronic Suspensory Branch Support

KT taping the fetlock can be a helpful supportive tool for horses managing an old suspensory branch injury. When applied correctly, it may provide proprioceptive feedback and gentle support during ongoing maintenance or controlled work.

🌟 MUSCLE OF THE MONTH 🌟

The equine biceps femoris is one of the largest and most powerful muscles of the hindquarter and one of three muscles that make up the hamstring group. Due to its size and broad fascial connections, it plays a key role in transferring force from the pelvis to the distal limb.

This makes the biceps femoris essential for power, acceleration, and collection, but also means it is commonly involved in hind-end compensation patterns.

⚙️ Primary functions:
• Extension of the hip, stifle, and hock
• Assists with forward movement and push-off
• Helps stabilize the hind limb during weight bearing

Because it spans multiple joints, dysfunction in this muscle may present as:
• Shortened hind-limb stride
• Reduced power or engagement
• Hind-end asymmetry
• Compensatory tension through the lumbar spine or SI region
