🌿 Plants have been supporting human health for thousands of years.

Long before there were labs, pharmacies, or research papers, people turned to the plants growing around them for nourishment, comfort, and healing.

Today, we have both tradition and science helping us better understand many of these herbs.

Herbal medicine isn’t magic or a quick fix.

But plants are powerful, and when used thoughtfully, they can play a meaningful role in supporting health and well-being.

That’s why I continue to study them, grow them, work with them, and share them with others.

The wisdom of the plants is worth preserving. 🌱

🌿 Herb of the Week: Lady’s Mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris) 🌿

Lady’s Mantle has long been associated with women, healing, and transformation—but its story goes even deeper.

The botanical name Alchemilla comes from the word alchemy. Medieval alchemists were fascinated by the shimmering droplets that collect on the plant’s leaves each morning. Believing this “heavenly water” possessed magical properties, they gathered it for use in their experiments, seeking transformation, purification, and the creation of the philosopher’s stone.

While modern herbalists may not be searching for gold, Lady’s Mantle still symbolizes transformation—supporting women through the many transitions of life.

✨ Traditionally used for:
• Menstrual discomfort
• Heavy menstrual flow
• Supporting uterine tone
• Perimenopausal transitions
• Digestive upset and loose stools

🌱 Scientific interest:
Lady’s Mantle contains tannins, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds. Its tannin content contributes to its traditional use as an astringent herb, helping to tone and support tissues throughout the body.

In traditional European herbalism, it has long been valued as a restorative herb for women during times of

We often think wellness requires a complete lifestyle overhaul.

The truth?

Some of the most powerful changes come from the smallest daily habits.

🌿 Drinking a nourishing cup of tea instead of rushing for another coffee.

🌿 Taking 10 minutes to sit outside and feel the sun on your face.

🌿 Eating one meal without distractions.

🌿 Adding more herbs, vegetables, and whole foods to your plate.

🌿 Taking a few deep breaths before jumping into the next task.

Healing doesn’t always happen through dramatic changes. More often, it happens through the small things we do consistently.

At Wild Roots Wellness, I believe wellness should feel doable, sustainable, and connected to real life—not overwhelming.

What is one small ritual that helps you feel grounded?

🍓 Strawberry Basil Chia Jam

Simple ingredients. Real nourishment.

This quick homemade jam is naturally sweetened with fruit, packed with fibre, and comes together in about 15 minutes. The fresh basil adds a beautiful twist that makes it feel a little extra special.

I love recipes like this because they remind us that healthy food doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes the most nourishing things are made from a handful of real ingredients and a few quiet moments in the kitchen.

Save this recipe for later and let me know—have you ever tried strawberries and basil together? Try it with mint or lemon balm instead!

🌿 Herb of the Week: Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) 🌿

Valerian is best known as a sleep herb, but its traditional use goes far beyond helping with occasional sleeplessness.

Often called “nature’s relaxer,” valerian has been used for centuries to support the nervous system during times of stress, tension, and restlessness. While some herbs gently soothe, valerian tends to be a deeper, more grounding herb for those who feel wound up, overstimulated, or unable to switch off at the end of the day.

✨ Traditionally used for:
• Occasional sleeplessness
• Nervous tension and stress
• Restlessness and irritability
• Muscle tension
• Supporting relaxation before bedtime

🌱 Scientific interest:
Valerian root contains compounds including valerenic acids and volatile oils that have been studied for their effects on the nervous system. Research suggests valerian may help support relaxation and sleep quality in some individuals.

Interestingly, not everyone responds to valerian the same way. While many find it calming, a small number of people may find it stimulating.

🌿 Herb of the Week: Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) 🌿

Yarrow is one of those herbs that seems to do a little bit of everything. Found growing in fields, roadsides, and gardens, it has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine for supporting wound healing, digestion, and the body’s natural inflammatory response.

Its feathery leaves and clusters of white flowers have made it a favorite herb among herbalists for centuries.

✨ Traditionally used for:
• Supporting healthy digestion
• Minor cuts, scrapes, and skin irritation
• Occasional fevers and colds
• Supporting circulation
• Menstrual discomfort

🌱 Scientific interest:
Yarrow contains flavonoids, sesquiterpene lactones, and volatile oils that have been studied for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Its traditional use as a wound herb is partly attributed to its astringent and tissue-supportive actions.

Sincerely Yours contacted me with an invitation to participate in a truly meaningful project, and it immediately felt like an ideal alignment.

There has always been something uniquely special about receiving a handwritten letter.

In a world that moves at such a rapid pace, a letter offers an opportunity to slow down, appreciate a story, and reconnect with life’s simple pleasures. For this reason, I am delighted to be partnering with Sincerely Yours and their thoughtfully curated flower-inspired letter experiences.

As many of you know, my passion for herbal medicine began with a deep appreciation for plants. Whether it is a wild medicinal herb growing along a trail, a flower blooming in my garden, or a carefully crafted tea blend, I have always been fascinated by the stories that plants can tell.

What I value most about this partnership is its encouragement to pause and observe the world around us—the flowers, the changing seasons, and the subtle details in nature that can so easily be overlooked amidst the demands of daily life. Together, the letters and teas provide an opportunity to slow down, cultivate presence, and reconnect with the beauty that surrounds us each day.

As part of this collaboration, I will be creating custom herbal tea blends inspired by the themes, moods, and flowers featured throughout the letter series. Each blend is thoughtfully crafted using organic herbs to support a meaningful ritual of reflection, connection, and mindfulness while engaging with the story.

To me, wellness extends beyond nutrition or supplementation. It is about creating moments that nourish and restore us—a cup of tea, a beautiful flower, a handwritten letter, or a few quiet moments away from the distractions of everyday life.

I look forward to sharing these blends with you and inviting you to join me on this journey, one letter and one cup of tea at a time. 🌿🌸✨.

🌿 Herb of the Week: Self Heal (Prunella vulgaris) 🌿

Despite its humble appearance, self heal has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine as a supportive herb for wound healing, immune health, and inflammation.

Often growing wild along pathways and fields, this resilient little plant has been used for centuries as a “vulnerary” herb — meaning an herb traditionally used to support the body’s natural healing process.

✨ Traditionally used for:• Minor wounds & skin irritation• Sore throats and mouth irritation• Immune support• Cooling excess heat and inflammation

Self heal is considered cooling and drying in herbal energetics, making it a beautiful herb when things feel inflamed, irritated, or overheated.

🌱 Scientific interest:Self heal contains compounds including rosmarinic acid, tannins, and flavonoids, which have been studied for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Its tannin content also gives it gentle astringent qualities — one reason it has traditionally been used for skin, throat, and tissue support.
