Intentional Path Mental Health

Intentional Path Mental Health At Intentional Path, I offer a warm, inclusive space where you can feel truly heard and supported as you explore your journey toward growth and resilience.

Hi, I’m Charlie Martin (he/him, MSW), a Calgary-based therapist offering in-person and virtual counselling for individual, couples, and families in Alberta rooted in clarity, purpose and intention. Hi, I’m Charlie—a therapist, husband and father with a passion for helping individuals and couples strengthen relationships, overcome challenges and build more fulfilling lives. With a Bachelor of Scien

ce in Psychology from the University of Montana, a Master of Clinical Social Work from the University of Calgary and licensure through the Alberta College of Social Workers, I combine clinical expertise with lived experience. My approach is rooted in empathy, intentional living and a deep respect for each person’s unique story. What I Offer:

In-person and virtual counselling for individuals, couples, and families in Calgary and across Alberta. Areas of support include anxiety, stress, relationships, and life transitions. Outside the office, I’m usually adventuring outdoors with my wife, our two kids, and our lively golden retrievers—or unwinding through woodworking and a good book. These personal passions shape my belief that growth comes not just from working through hardship, but also from reconnecting with what brings us joy. Whether you’re seeking clarity, healing, or change, I’m here to walk alongside you—one intentional step at a time.

There’s a particular look I see in the dads who walk into my office.

Shoulders set. Jaw tight. Voice measured.

“Work is fine. The kids are good.”

But their nervous system is telling a very different story.

This one’s for the dads who are holding it all together on the outside — while quietly falling apart on the inside.

Ready to stop white-knuckling it? I offer free 15-minute consultations. Link in bio.

Hi, I'm Charlie — the therapist behind Intentional Path Mental Health. 🌿

I provide professional counselling in Calgary, Alberta for individuals, couples, and families, supporting mental health, emotional well-being, relationship growth, and life transitions in a calm, compassionate, and inclusive space.

This June, for Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, I want to put a face to the name — and a reminder that support isn't just for crisis moments. It's for the everyday weight too: burnout, disconnection, the racing mind that won't quiet down.

If you're looking for a Calgary counsellor or therapy in Calgary, I'd be glad to help you take the next step — with intention and care.

There's a look I recognize.

Shoulders set. Jaw tight. Voice measured. "Work is fine. The kids are good. I'm fine."

But underneath that? A lot of dads are carrying more than anyone knows, and doing it completely alone.

Fatherhood can be isolating in ways that don't get talked about enough. The pressure to hold it together, to be the strong one, to keep showing up, even when you're running on empty. And because men are so often taught that asking for help is a sign of weakness, many just... don't.

This isn't a character flaw. It's a pattern. And it's one worth breaking.

Our newest blog post explores why so many dads suffer in silence, what isolation actually does to mental health, and what it looks like to start reaching out, even in small ways.

If this sounds familiar, whether it's you or someone you love, this one's worth a read.

Fatherhood comes with invisible weight. Discover what the "strong and silent" expectation actually does to men's mental health, and why it's time to talk about it.

Most men have heard these messages their whole lives. But strength isn't silence and you don't have to figure it out alone.

When stress builds, your nervous system reaches for what’s familiar. That’s not weakness. That’s efficiency.

But here’s the thing: t

he thinking patterns that feel most certain are often the ones keeping you stuck.

Rigid thinking says “If I fail, I’m a failure.” Flexible thinking asks “What else might be true here?”

That shift, from certainty to curiosity, is where healing starts.

Swipe through to understand the difference, and why it matters more than you think.

Alberta spring has a way of humbling you. ❄️

You plan for sunshine. You get snow.

And somehow, you have to keep going anyway.

That's not weakness. That's resilience.

Your nervous system does the same thing. Life throws something unexpected, and it has to adapt, recalibrate, and find a new path forward.

The goal isn't to control the weather. It's to trust that you can handle whatever shows up.

What's one thing you're learning to be more flexible about this season?

Connection isn't just nice to have. It's essential for your mental health.

Social connection is one of the most powerful protective factors for our well-being.

Here's what the data tells us:

🔹 Millions of Canadians say they feel lonely "often or always"
🔹 13% of people in Canada report feeling lonely all or most of the time
🔹 The WHO declared loneliness and social isolation a global health concern in 2023
🔹 Strong social connections help reduce stress, build resilience, and improve our ability to cope with life's challenges

And here's the part that often surprises people: you don't need grand gestures. Connection can start small.

A text to a friend. A coffee with a neighbour. Showing up to a community event. Saying yes when someone asks how you're doing.

Your nervous system is wired for connection. When we feel seen and supported, we regulate better, cope better, and heal better.

If you've been feeling isolated or like you have to hold it all together on your own, that's worth paying attention to. Reaching out isn't a sign of weakness. It's one of the most proactive things you can do for your mental health.

What's one small way you've been nurturing connection lately? Share in the comments.

You don’t have to earn rest.

May is Mental Health Month, and this one’s for everyone who’s been running on empty, holding it all together, and wondering why it still feels like it’s not enough.

Here’s the truth:

your nervous system doesn’t know the difference between a real threat and a packed calendar. When you’re exhausted, disconnected, or can’t seem to slow down, that’s not weakness. That’s biology doing its job.

This month, MAY you gave yourself permission to:

* Slow down without guilt
* Be gentle with yourself
* Choose progress over perfection
* Find one moment of stillness
* Reach out when it feels hard

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

If you’ve been thinking about therapy, I offer a free 15-minute consultation, no pressure, just a conversation. Link in bio.

Your voice can help shape men's mental health care in Canada. 💙

The Mental Health Commission of Canada Commission de la santé mentale du Canada is asking people across the country to complete a short survey on men and boys' health, and it only takes a few minutes.

Your input will help the Government of Canada develop its very first Men and Boys' Health Strategy, looking at the challenges men and boys face in getting the support they need.

Who can participate? Everyone! Men, women, partners, parents, families, friends, and organizations are all welcome.

Why does it matter? Because too many men are suffering in silence, and the systems meant to help them need to do better. This is a real opportunity to influence change.

⏰ Deadline: June 1, 2026 🔗 Take the survey: https://lnw.ly/F3NtS0YRg6b

Share this with someone who cares about the men in their life. 💙

Your voice is important. 📣

Join the conversation on men and boys’ health by completing a short questionnaire.

➡️ Why participate?

Your input will help shape the Government of Canada’s first-ever Men and Boys’ Health Strategy. Help identify challenges faced by men and boys, gaps in supports and services, and what needs to change to better support the health and well-being of men and boys.

➡️ Who can take part?

Everyone. Men, women, youth, partners, families, friends, communities and organizations are all encouraged to participate.

⏰How long does it take? Only a few minutes.
