My generation seeks many things, but what we truly need is Jesus!
Recently, I was studying Acts 3โthe story of Peter and the lame man at the Beautiful Gate.
The Bible tells us that this man had been lame from birth. Every day, he was carried to the temple gate to beg for money. He had no independence. He depended on others for almost everythingโeven to get to the place where he begged.
One day, he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple, and he asked them for money.
But Peter said:
โSilver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you.โ
And then, in the name of Jesus Christ, he told the man to walk.
That story made me think about how often we focus on the symptoms of a problem instead of the root.
The man's immediate need appeared to be money. But his deeper problem was that he could not walk. If he was healed, his dependence on others for money would no longer define his life.
Peter didn't simply respond to the request on the surface. He addressed the deeper need.
And I believe this is something God is calling us to recognize in our generation.
People are searching for money, success, relationships, recognition, knowledge, influence, and happiness. And while some of these things may have their place, they cannot satisfy the deepest need of the human heart.
We need Jesus.
God is looking for people who can see beyond the surfaceโbeyond the symptoms, beyond the outward appearance, and beyond what people think they needโand point them to Jesus.
People who can look at the emptiness in someone's heart and say, โWhat you truly need is Jesus.โ
There is another part of this story that really struck me.
The lame man didn't know who Peter and John were. He saw them and asked for money.
Imagine having an encounter with people carrying the power of God, yet asking them for something that could only meet a temporary need.
It reminds me of Jesus' conversation with the Samaritan woman.
Jesus said to her:
โIf you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.โ
She didn't know who was standing in front of her.
She saw an ordinary Jewish man asking her for water. But she was actually having an encounter with the Messiah.
And I wonder: What would change if our generation truly knew who Jesus is?
If we truly understood who He is, would we still spend our lives chasing only what this world can offer?
We chase fame.
We chase money.
We chase knowledge.
We chase influence.
We chase success.
But what if, beneath all of it, what our generation is really searching for is Jesus?
My prayer is that God will help me partner with what He is doing in this generationโto make Jesus known.
Not merely as the One who gives us things.
Not merely as the One we run to when we have a problem.
But as the Savior who died to set us free from sin and death.
As the One who is worthy of our whole lives.
I want to make Jesus known to my generation and to the generations that come after me.
Do I want fame? Yes, if God gives it to me.
Do I want money? Of course, if God chooses to entrust it to me.
Do I want influence and success? Absolutely.
But I don't want any of these things if they take me outside God's will or make me lose sight of the One who matters most.
Give me Jesus, or give me nothing.
Because if I have everything this world can offer but don't have Jesus, I have still missed the greatest gift of all.
