What if a patient’s own microbiome could help prevent life-threatening ICU infections?
Our researchers have developed ONTime, a new cost-effective bedside test that rapidly analyzes a patient’s microbiome to identify missing protective bacteria before infection takes hold. Led by ICU physician-scientist Dr. Braedon McDonald, the team is using this innovative approach to help prevent serious complications such as ventilator-associated pneumonia in critically ill patients.
Supported by a catalyst grant from the McKay Family Foundation, ONTime will be tested later this year in a clinical trial at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.
