Here’s a clinical reality check: when you are highly triggered, anxious, or in the middle of a screaming match, your brain undergoes what Dr. Stephen Porges describes in Polyvagal Theory as neuroception. Your nervous system detects a threat and immediately takes the logical, rational parts of your brain offline to prioritize basic survival.

Trying to “think your way out” of anxiety or using logic to stop an emotional outburst is like trying to rewrite a computer program while the power grid is completely shut off. The hardware isn’t listening.

You have to communicate safety to the body first through somatic regulation and breath before your rational mind can even enter the chat. Stop fighting your biology.
